Social media bombardment over the past few weeks also included a tasty morsel in the form of notifications for the 80th National Confectionery Exhibition.
With the exhibition held under a dinosaur theme and packed with images of dino-confectionary, it immediately became a must-see for me as a sweet-toothed dinosaur owner.
And doubly so as the event was being held at the Mitsukoshi Department Store in Nihonbashi, a short walk from my workplace.
I got to the five-day exhibition as soon as I could, and I was left with a bitter aftertaste.
Yes, there’s a fossilized T-rex skull there, a game or two, and a couple of displays and some VR thing, but it was packed.
All the best dinosaur confectionary was sold out within minutes of stores opening and few offered displays of items that were soon purchased.
The cakes and other confectionaries were exquisite, but getting to see them was a tough task, and decidedly unpalatable.
It was terrible.
It is not an exhibition, but sales, and very few of them related to dinosaurs.
Most of those that were associated with dinosaurs sold out quickly.
None of the sweets advertised could be seen less than an hour after opening as they had all sold out.
The only ‘exhibits’ among the confectionary items were nearly all regular confectionaries.
Mitsukoshi usually delivers far finer quality, but I expected too much this time.
It’s no wonder that the most prominent content on the website for the event is a warning that items may soon be sold out….that’s exactly what I encountered, so I suppose I can’t feel too bad about the store for false advertising.
It looked amazing on the smartphone screen, but just didn’t deliver for me in person.
