Let There Be Lights

Kangaeroo Corner has got one of the greatest gardens in Tokyo, at least according to Kangaeroo, and one of its features its the extensive lighting.

Alongside the mostly Aussie native plants adorning the garden are plenty of garden ornaments of Australian native animals and birds.

The kangaroos, koalas and various types of avian life such as a kookaburra, cockatoo and galah, are lit up using solar-powered garden lights.

Much to Mrs. Kangaeroo’s chagrin, Kangaeroo adores these garden lights.

And the growing length of sunshine each day as spring approaches affords each lighter with a greater charge of its battery, which keeps the garden well-lit, well past the onset of darkness.

And while Mrs. Kanageroo was off working over the weekend, Kanageroo took advantage of the fact.

It is is nearly always easier to apologize in Japan than to ask for permission.

As a result, Kangaeroo Coven now has a new set of lights, and they were put in place for all to adore well before any objection could be made.

And the lights are brighter and more powerful than ever before, literally focusing a spotlight on the garden’s centerpiece, life-sized kangaroo sculpture, highlighting the kookaburra sitting in the old wattle tree and shedding light on the garden overall.

  • R U OK?

R U OK?(Are you OK? Angel of the Gap Suicide Prevention Australia

  • Always Been Certifiable, But Now I’m Certified

Today was a bit of a landmark day as I passed the exam for the Investment Foundations Certificate. I’m pretty chuffed because I’m not great with numbers or arithmetical formulas, but I somehow managed to scrape through the course. The course has a wonderful curriculum that inspired even generally unenthusiastic students such as myself to taking an interest in learning about investment and financing. Provided by the CFA Institute, the course is superbly designed to take people with virtually no knowledge of the field to develop a basic knowledge. It was worthwhile and each stage ushered in a new area of study and interest. One thing I picked up on…

  • ‘Umble…That’s What You’ve Gotta Be

Humility is a trait I desperately seek, but, like Uriah Heep in Charles Dickens‘ masterpiece, David Copperfield, who constantly espoused the need to be humble, I implore myself to be modest, but the only area in which I have consistently done so is my track record in life. For those who don’t know the story (which included me until this morning), Heep was exposed as being far from the humble servant he pretended to be, and was instead an unctuous, slimy, sycophantic hypocrite who ripped off his benefactors…. (Ouch…this feels like it’s getting a bit too close to home….better change the topic….) Reality is giving me some lovely lessons in…

  • Back on the Bike

For a variety of reasons decent riding hadn’t been possible yesterday, but today it was back on the bike. Apart from the theft and vandalism, Kangaeroo also had an appointment. And worry about impending punishment from work had kept him awake nearly all the previous night, mustering a depressive low that thwarted crawling out of bed and plunging in the cold and dark to ride. Should have done it anyway, so the later regret also had a compounding effect on the low. Kinda living in fear, anger and resentment at the moment. Thank God for cycling! Getting on the bike provides a lift. There’s a lot for Kangaeroo to be…

  • Take a Good Look at Yourself

Navel-gazing is a dubious “talent” of which I have been adorned with for life, bar those couple of decades when I was too grossly obese to be able to even see my navel. That never stopped me from over-thinking: worse, actually, as taking any action has always been pretty close to a last resort even now when I am more nimbler physically than the mental agility I was blessed (or cursed) with in youth. My over-thinking now is about work. I caused a scandal a couple of decades ago, but Google makes sure it remains fresh in the mind of any prospective employer doing due diligence. My current position took…
