ボーガン罵り言葉のパラドックス
ボーガン語の中でも特に面白いのが、 オーストラリア人が“罵り言葉を社会的な句読点に変えてしまう”能力。 他の英語圏ならショッキングな単語が、 オーストラリアではこんなふうに使われる。 つまり、 罵り言葉が文法カテゴリーを全部制覇してしまう。もちろん、これはボーガンだけの特徴ではない。 オーストラリア全体の言語文化に根付いている。でも、「ボーガンのステレオタイプは、この“罵り言葉文化”を舞台演劇レベルまで誇張する。
豪のクリスマス・ソング：Christmas on the Station

Skippy the Bush Kangaroo, probably the most-loved Australian children’s TV program in history, has turned 50 years old. The first episodes screened in Australia in February 1968 and the show remains popular to this day, though only three series comprising 91 episodes were made. The show premiered outside of Australia. Its run in Japan had effectively ended before Skippy showed in Australia, mainly because the series was made in color, which did not arrive in Australia until 1975. 今月また来日するハリウッド大スタージョニー・デップ氏がちょこちょこ日本に来ることにも関わらず、オーストラリアとあまり縁がない。 Hollywood heartthrob Johnny Depp is a regular visitor to Japan, and is due to return again later this month, but he hasn’t shown his face so often in Australia. 初回オーストラリアに訪問したのが１９８８年「２１ジャンプ・ストリート」出演する時の同番組PR訪問。 His first visit Down Under was way back in 1988, when he made a whirlwind trip to promote 21 Jump Street, the show he was then appearing in. それに伴った当時オーストラリアで最も人気だったテレビ番組Hey, Hey It’s Saturdayのセグメントに出た。同番組が１９９８年６月２５日に上映し、後で世界的に大スターとなるカイリー・ミノーグ氏妹ダニー・ミノーグ氏を一緒に出演する。 番組終了出国後、「アリス・イン・ワンダーランド」に纏わる訪問で２０１０年まで再びオーストラリアに行くことがなかった。 Depp appeared on the Red Faces segment of Hey, Hey It’s Saturday, then Australia’s most popular program. 日本マクドナルドのAussie Deliバーガーが豪Maccasらしくない！ McDonald’s Australia has decided to get Serious! Literally, with the Serious Lamb Burger.
