Settling Back Down To Being Unsettled

After a magnificently enjoyable week off that followed a month of working from home with little external pressure, the return to reality has been more unsettling than resuming the settling effects of routine.

I guess the passage of time will make things easier.

It has been pretty hectic in some ways, nonetheless.

Just getting back to commuting, using the sometimes unfriendly ticket vending machines, packing myself into the train carriage with thousands of others, and then the grueling trip downtown where each stop means even more commuters cramming in with us.

Getting into the office, I was rewarded with a swag full of company merch!

Work has eased me back into reality by not being overly strenuous.

I’m taking the opportunity provided by the slow time to study.

Tuesday night I needed to visit the dentist for periodontal care.

And then earlier this morning it was off to the doctor again to see whether my weight loss efforts are paying off.

Turns out that my kindey function might be a bit shonky. Bloody hell.

My work evaluation was a low-key affair and my boss said the company is pleased with my performance.

I, meanwhile, am delighted by the performance of Mrs. Kangaeroo, who is single-handedly nurturing Dino back to health. Our rosy faced lovebird has pooped twice this week, the first time in months for her to excrete unaided.

With nothing holding me back, I headed out for a lunchtime ride and was delighted to be hit by a downpour. The rain didn’t end giving our garden a much-needed water. But I did get some awesome shots of a reflective bike path.

• Where Does It All Come From?

We’re in the process of preparing to move house and I am bewilered where all my junk comes from, though I am well aware of being a lifelong hoarder. I’ve yet to see the new place we’re going to, but I am packing stuff up daily after returning from work, but mostly getting ready to dump all the stuff I ahve accumulated. It’s hard to believe I came to Japan with a single suitcase.

    Tour de Gutsing

Today was simply magnificent: stunning weather, delightful companions, fantastic bikes and serious gutsing of ourselves. Bromptons ruled the day and it was the common connection between us. Mechanicals slowed down our start, but also opened new doors. Following a slowdown caused by a flat, we got to eat at Hugsy Doughnut and then later rode on for pies, cakes and cuppas at Punk Doily.

  • Wisteria Hysteria

For the second time this week, I headed off to nearby Yakushiike Park to get photos of the glorious wisteria there, this time with the hope that they would be in full bloom. I was probably still a bit too early, but it was beautiful nonetheless. And the short trip was made even more enjoyable because I was caught riding a bike inside the park by a loudspeaker-blaring jobsworth of the type I associate with the place. But I was left alone after dismounting even though I noticed the officious guard had come after me with his guard stick in hand only to head in a different direction when he…
