    For some reason, Japanese artists covering Western songs has also held something of a fascination for me. I’m not really attuned to hit charts, nor really have been. And music isn’t one of my great loves, though I have an appreciation for pretty much any type of tune.     Australiana for Australia Day

    オーストラリア人コメディアンオーステン・テーシャス氏＊が1983年豪州象徴的なものや地名などのごろ合わせによって詩「Australiana」で全国一世風靡し、No. 1ヒットとなった。かなりやばい言葉使いであり、色な所で放送禁止となった。 1月26日建国近年日にあたる「Australia Day」にちなんで、下記再現する。お楽しみ。 Australiana Sittin’ at home last Sunday mornin’ me mate Boomer rang (boomerang).     　典型的なオージー英語を一言で言うならG’dayは「これだ！」という感じだ。G’dayほど有名なオージー英語はない。ちなみに、ニュージーランド英語でもG’dayも使う。G’dayはgood dayという古い英語の省略であり、スペルもguddayやgiddayなどさまざまあるが、辞書などで調べるとG’dayが正しいのだ。

    　オージー英語はStrine（ストライン）とも言う。オーストラリア鉛の特徴の一つがしゃべる時に母音を極端に伸ばしてほかの表現を短くすることだ。つきましては、「オーストラリアン」をいう時に鉛に慣れていない人は、「ストライン」や「ストラヤン」に聞こえるらしい。そこで、パロディとして1960年代Afferbeck Lauder氏がストラインという言葉を造語し、今広く使われているようになった。（ちなみに、同氏の名前がalphabetical order < ＡＢＣ順＞のストラインらしい発音でかけているジョークネームである。）
