  • After the Apocalypse….

We’ve just had a wonderful weekend enjoying the pleasures of the Tama Hills Recreation Area, which combines luxurious quarters with wild, somewhat terrifying scenery reminiscent of what a world without humans might look like. It’s the latter that continues to delight me in the bi-annual visits we’ve been fortunate to make over the past decade or so, though such opportunities may about to draw to a close. We will enjoy them while we can, though.

  • Layabout

A layabout in Strine is someone who avoids work, except when striving hard to avoid doing anything useful. They work hard to avoid work. Layabouts are also referred to as idlers, good-for-nothings, and–most commonly–bludgers.

  • 何でBaggy Green(バギー・グリーン)を頭にかぶっている?

He finally earned his Baggy Green.

Big Galah

Panorama of The Big Galah supplied by Panoramic Earth View Larger Map An Aussie Chrissie The Strine Why Atorkin: Natchrule Strine Galah/アホ 豪キャブラリー:Galah Strine Dictionary

Waffle

In other English-speaking countries, there’s a high likelihood waffles may appear on a breakfast menu, but if you began waffling from first thing in the morning in Strine, Australian English, you might find yourself becoming unpopular fairly quickly. Keep reading to find out why.

McDonald’s Australia has decided to get Serious! Literally, with the Serious Lamb Burger. But, and we’re sorry to be Maccas whackers, the Aussie Deli due out in Japan later this month is, frankly, insincere to Japanese consumers at best, and blatantly false advertising at worse. About the only things “Aussie” in McDonald’s Japan’s upcoming Aussie Deli burger are the name and the type of beef used in the patties, a point the local restaurant chain probably recognizes by marketing it as “Australian-born taste” rather than something specifically linking it to Down Under. But at around the same time it goes on sale, the more authentically Australian…
