Australia’s cultural presence in Japan remains strong this week, with internationally acclaimed sculpture, award-winning theatre, progressive rock at Fuji Rock, and a special exhibition celebrating 50 years of Australia–Japan friendship.

PLINI at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL ’26 | PLINI フジロック出演

Australian progressive guitarist PLINI makes his long-awaited Fuji Rock debut this weekend. Renowned for his technically brilliant instrumental music, Plini has become one of Australia’s most respected contemporary musicians and tours internationally to sold-out audiences.

Award-winning Australian playwright Suzie Miller‘s internationally acclaimed one-woman drama concludes its Tokyo season this weekend before touring Gunma, Fukushima, Ibaraki, Osaka and Hyogo.

The play has become one of Australia’s biggest theatrical exports and has won numerous international awards.

Ron Mueck at the Mori Art Museum

One of Australia’s most celebrated contemporary artists is currently the subject of a major exhibition at the Mori Art Museum.

Ron Mueck’s hyperrealistic sculptures explore the human condition through astonishing craftsmanship and dramatic changes in scale. If you haven’t visited yet, this remains one of the year’s biggest Australian cultural events in Japan.
