Ending With the Seed of An Idea

Sometimes, Kangaeroo can come up with the seed of an idea.

Thanks to a bit of a search a few months ago, Kangaeroo has got plenty of Aussie native plant seeds to try and grow.

Growing them will be a late-winter, early-spring initiative.

But preparations are already underway.

Will be interesting to see how the Kangaeroo Cove shapes up when the northern spring hits.

  • Rav-AGE!

Getting old is not much fun, nor, as the late, great thespian Bette Davis once famously said, it’s not for sissies. But I’ve becoming increasingly conscious of age over the past few weeks. My eyesight is going: quickly and rapidly. I’m seeing less in the dark and rain, vision is cloudy and peripheral vision untrustworthy. Arthritis in my hands is making even the most minor of tasks a tough one. And my professional life, such as it is, is slipping from disaster to disaster. All these things are adding up to fill me with fear and trepidation, which has become paralyzing, and even worse, kept me away from one of…

  • Indigenous Aussies and Strine 先住民と豪語

Indigenous Australians have contributed richly to language on a global scale. This is especially through the names of creatures such as the kangaroo, koala, wombat, wallaby and dingo, all of which were originally Indigenous Australian words, but now used everywhere English is spoken, as well as being incorporated into other languages, including Japanese.

  • Gazing at Japanese Tit Birds

Having put in the most demanding week of work I’ve done in years, then been woken early after a mostly sleepless night, I’ve kicked off this long-awaited weekend by sitting at the living room window and gazing for hours at Japanese tits. In a life increasingly marked by failure, it’s fair to say that one area in which I’ve excelled is in having a good eye for the birds. With a constant companion twittering away while nibbling on my ear, it’s hard to keep my mind of things like boobies and other types of tits, and before I come across like some fluffy-backed tit-babbler or horned screamer, I should note…

  • Kangaroo Words Put Power In Pouches

カンガルー・ワードで英語を楽しく学ぼう! A kangaroo word is a word that contains all the letters of one of its synonyms (joey words) inside it. Kangaroos carry their young, called joeys, in a pouch. The term kangaroo word comes from this idea. なぜ「カンガルー」なのでしょう?カンガルーは赤ちゃん(ジョーイ)をおなかの袋で育てます。「カンガルー・ワード」は、このイメージから生まれた言葉です。 big → biGgest (big), beginNing (begin)kind → kinDness (kind), kinDergarten (kindergarten) Strine Dictionary | 考えRoo

Dealing With Snow Can Be A Taxing Business

While never the most patient of people, today has proved to be particularly taxing in so many ways, including literally. I woke well before dawn as is my typical morning routine and a blanket of white was there to greet me. The days when a heavy snowfall delighted me are well and truly past (despite having lingered longer than they should have done, to be honest, with the winter wonderland atmosphere still at least a little bit magical…maybe a lot, I am realizing as I type…) Anyway, I knew today would not afford many opportunities to be physically active. I was right. Normally, when it snows I try to get…

  • Strewth, The Whole Strewth And Nothing But The Strewth

An amphibious reptile has taken over the Fountain of Strewth, and that’s no crock. Well, it is, but more croc that crock. A large crocodile is occupying the rim of the Fountain of Strewth. Mrs. Kangaeroo bought it and placed it there, using it to replace a tiny replica crocodile she had initially attached to the new lettering on the fountain. We’ve always had lettering on the fountain, but it got a new, metallic upgrade over the summer, in addition to a Beware of Crocodiles replica road sign. Ironically, the solar-power fountain that worked so tremendously well and gave the water attraction its name has been rendered almost obselete by…
