Doubling Up
Got to ride a tandem with an old work colleague yesterday at Showa Kinen Koen.
It was a day of magnificent company, stupendous weather, and plenty of color to mark the full-on onset of spring.

Wasn’t going to write anything today, but a delightfully sunny winter morning got me fawning over Kangaeroo Corner and feeling absolutely thrilled to have this little garden, especially when it’s attracting the local birds to our Fountain of Strewth. With a later than usual start to riding planned, I got to spend the early morning chatting with our dinosaur, devising more ideas to interfere with the garden’s process and gas-bagging with my sister. Our discussion was a deep one, and I appreciate her care and concern over so many decades. Today, though, we focused on my difficulties in dealing with happiness and coping with a supportive, encouraging environment. I’m now…
Roo turns airport into Hopper’s crossing

In an otherwise nondescript weekend–almost no tours, tests, parties, interviews, meetings, events or obligations–death reigned supreme, and by that I mean the Death Machine was my prime mode of transport. Although as I noted yesterday, in the one appointment I did have, I was also killed off myself, albeit temporarily. The Death Machine got its name from being like a near-death experience with every ride, particularly because it takes some time to learn how to properly balance to ride the recumbent. But the bicycle has also been notoriously fickle, breaking down at the most inopportune times. A couple of years ago, it’s tire burst and send me skidding along the…
It was with great delight that I learned overnight that Christmas in Japan in 2025 will have a tinge of Aussie about it. And my enthusiasm was in no way quelled by the fact that this merely meant a screening of Mad Max. With a message of “Merry Mad Max,” National broadcaster NHK‘s Premium Cinema channel will celebrate the festive season with a screening of the Aussie classic propelled to worldwide success on the back of becoming a hit in Japan when it was released here in 1979. Mad Max is Australia’s most successful film franchise and Japan played a huge role in it becoming that way, as we have…
Banana bender Australian English A Queenslander, a resident or native of the state of Queensland. The name derives from the large amount of tropic fruit production in the state, as well as being a gentle jibe at Queenslanders for the perception that they are “slow” because of the regional accent and the state’s traditional conservativeness. Some Queenslanders, particularly from the countryside, speak with a slow, broad accent and many end sentences with the intonated question “eh?” This is the most distinctive of any regional Australian accent. Plain English Queenslander.
