Summer Cycling Sways Silent Sweetness

For the second year in a row we have been able to have a reasonable undemanding summer season, which is an absolute delight as the hottest time of the year has traditionally meant gruelling hard work as it is our busiest time of the year.

The pandemic and pretty lousy sales people have ensured that we do not have to put in overtime; in the office at least.

There’s not enough time in the day for me as I continue my pursuit of the goal to cycle a circumnavigation of the world in a year (which requires pedaling over 28,000 km or so).

    I’m not quite out of action, but not far from it, thanks to popping a tiny blister on my finger over a week ago now. The bloody thing got infected and the infection started to spread up my arm. Pain has been excruciating, which has come as a total surprise considering how small the original blister was, and I have barely slept in a week filled with visits to the dermatologist and being pumped with increasingly large and frequent doses of painkillers and antibiotics.     　ジュリア・ギラード豪首相が6日付とある豪テレビ局用に「世界に人類が撲滅する」と発表したことはフェーファックス紙ネット版が報道した。 　幸いにジョークだった。 　終末論の一つとしてマヤ文明が2012年12月21日から23日の間に人類が撲滅するということを連想して世界中に広く課題となっていた。 　この話に伴ったオーストラリアの若者向け全国ラジオ局トリプルＪが人類撲滅直前人間を祝うことにした。その一環として、総理大臣が協力することになって、同局が制作するテレビ番組のために一シーンを撮影することになった。 　ギラード氏は、「オーストラリア人仲間、人類撲滅が近づいている。Ｙ２Ｋでもなくて、（オーストラリアが今年導入して猛反対された）炭素税でもなかった。人類撲滅は、人間食いゾンビであろうが、地獄的な野獣であろうがＫ－ＰＯＰの完全統治であろうが、最後まで私はあなたたちのために必死に戦います」と宣言した。 　最後に「ま、人類撲滅であれば少なくとも（政治家を厳しく追及するで有名な番組である）Ｑ＆Ａでなくてすめるよね」。 　ギラード氏の放送に対して豪国民が賛否両論 　「有権者をバカにするな」や「納税者の血税の無駄だ！」という声も上がる一方「国民のレベルから行動するのがいいな」と「ジュールズ（同氏のあだ名）最高！ちなみに、俺はゾンビだと思うぜ」という反応もある。 　トリプルＪの「人類撲滅」プログラムは7日9時（豪東海岸時間）放送される。ネット上でも聞ける。 ‘I won’t have to do Q&A again’: PM spoofs end of the world

    It’s getting darker in the mornings, already much more noticeably than before the equinox, which was still less than a month ago. But there is some sort of light on the horizon, literally and figuratively.     TVアナがカンタスを日本語口調で言うと放送禁止用語に

    　オーストラリアネットワーク・テン民放テレビ局でカリー・ビックモア氏というアナウンサーがカンタス航空に関する報道を読み上げている際、日本語同様の口調で同会社の名前を呼んで大騒ぎとなっている。 　「なんで？」と思う人がるかもしれない。 　実は英語で言うと、同社名が「カンタス」というより「クワンタス」に近い発音となる。それはそれでいいが日本語風の「カンタス」を英語で言うとかなりヤバイ言葉に近い形になる。もっと厳密に言えば、カンタスをカントとアスと捉えれば二つのヤバイ言葉になる。 　そして、ビックモア氏が29日付にこの発言を、、、 　「Virgin is targeting key corporate routes, hoping to win over Cuntas, er, excuse me, Qantas customers…」 　まさにその日本語口調の発音を偶然に番組生放送中に言ってしまった。すぐに発音ミスと間違いの重大さを気づき誤って、笑い崩した。 　同僚も気づきかなりからかった。「この映像があっという間にYouTubeで見られます」と視聴者に向けて発言した。 　アナウンサーの言うとおり、事件の映像風景は下記にある。発音ミスが０：０８時点にある。
