Can’t Wait To Get Back In The Saddle Again In The Year Of The Horse

Welcome to 2026, umadoshi, or the Year of the Horse according to the Chinese Zodiac. Though I’d really love to be hitting the new year at a gallop, I’ve been limp for months after breaking a leg. But my recovery is now finally entering its final furlong.

All I want from 2026 is to be a decent bloke who does the right thing by family, friends, employer, dinosaur, and those I come into contact with. I’d love to be able to ride my bike as much as possible and join Mrs. Kangaeroo in the horse-riding that she loves, even if only for a ride or two. I’d also like to nurture my garden. I have neglected it over the past few months due to my injuries.

Mostly, I’d love to be a constructive, elevating presence in other people’s lives. I haven’t been very good at that throughout my life so far, so it’s something I’d like to strive for. Here’s hoping the year makes for a wonderful ride and a great time in the saddle.

  • Get Off Of My Cloud!

Riding today was like floating through the heavens at times, reminding me of one of my favorite songs by the world’s greatest rock band: The Rolling Stones‘ Get off My Cloud. I’d have loved to have been able to keep the scene for myself as I rode through the mists along the Tama River, sometimes staying above the clouds as I rode along the levy. Thoughts were a bit too cloudy for my liking, too, as I go through another character-building, growth stage, I guess. Wasn’t a great start to the day. Struggled to sleep again, as I have for months. Was late taking off. Went in to wake up…

To lurk implies something dark when normally used in English, but when it comes to Strine, being on a good lurk in Australia is not such a bad deal.

  • Sizzling Hot Hits The Spot…Sometimes

Tokyo has been blistering hot for weeks now, with temperatures topping 35 degrees nearly every day now since at the least the start of July. For someone who despises the cold as I do, the heat is welcome, regardless of its energy draining effects. At least, that is for some of the time. Steamy humidity throughout the night has made sleeping onerous, and I’m not helped by Mrs. Kangaeroo being extraordinarily sensitive to the cold, which rules out my preferred remedy of having a fan going beside the bed. Fortunately, cycling helps acclimate to the heat, I have found. My experience has been that riding in all weather conditions essentially…
