    豪キャブラリー： Shoot through

    Shoot through （打って通れば）を聞くと何となく「銃の引き金を引く」ような感覚を起こすかもしれないが、実際にオージー英語でこの表現を使えば一切そういうような意味がない。実は、「打つ」(shoot)と一切関係ない（だったら、なんで使うかと言いたくなるよね、、、）。「出ていく」とか「場を去る」などの意味。Shoot offも同様の意味として使う場合もある、「急いでいく」ような感覚があるが、shoot offのほとんどの使う時がshoot off your mouth（口を打つ！）になり、「しゃべり過ぎ」という意味のだ！

    Saveloyは昨日の豪キャブラリーで説明したようにウィーナー見たいなソーセージの一種だ。 　オージー英語でありながら、食類なので厳密に言えば豪キャブラリーに入れないかもしれないが重要なオージー英語表現の一部なので特別に対象とした。それに、かなりおいしいなので一度食べてみたらいかがでしょうか？

    ビール・グラス名称だけで嫌になちゃうオージー英語

    オーストラリアではビールがよく飲まれているし、ある人にとって「ビール飲みオーストラリア人」が国民的な象徴まで言っても過言ではない。 　なので、ビールを頼むのは簡単だと思うだろう？A glass of beer, pleaseやTwo glasses of beerなどのように言えば良いと思っても当然だと思う。しかし、ちょっと甘い。（頼むときに、オージー英語ではpleaseとthanksがほぼ自由に入れ替わりが出来ることを別において置いて、、、）そのように頼めば確かにビールは出るが場所によってそのビールのサイズが大きく異なる可能性が高い。 　なぜかというと、オーストラリアの州によってビールを入れるグラスの名称が違う。時には、その違いが大きい場合もある。「Glass」という名称も使わないところもある。 「熱くなって一杯飲みたいな」と思ったら、ビール・グラス名称を覚えるのは面倒だろうので、下記のテーブルが各州のビール・グラスの大きさと名称を示している。参考になればripper, mate!
