「足首を噛むやつ」は、ankle bitersの直訳だが、ankle bitersは決して人の足首を噛むわけではない。オージー英語では子供、特に小さい子供に対して使う表現だ。語源は、背が小さいので、何かを噛もうとしても人の足首ぐらいの高さしか噛めないということなのだ。
