豪のクリスマス・ソング：Christmas on the Station

santa_on_beachs　故スリム・ダスティ氏は恐らくオーストラリア最大なカントリー・ミュージック歌手であり、多くのオーストラリア人にとっては多くの日本人にとって美空ひばりのような存在感があった人だった。
　彼が歌ったオーストラリア風のクリスマス・ソングが以下のものだった。
　これがステーションと言うオーストラリアの巨大牧場でのクリスマスを祝う話だ。
　ちなみに、同氏が1957年に「ビールがないパブ」と言う曲によって世界中に大ヒットを出したオーストラリア人アーティストだった。同曲がページしたにあるので、お楽しみください。

    　もはや、今年のクリスマスの日が後僅か数日間となった。 　日本を含めてほとんどの人のクリスマスに関する印象が北半球の真冬の行事だ。 　しかし、南半球を忘れないようにしようよ！ 　オーストラリアのクリスマスが真夏だ！ 　実は、ほとんどの場合、真夏でもクリスマスに関する飾りや行事が真冬っぽいの姿をオーストラリアでも現れる。 　だが、たとえトナカイの変わりにカンガルーがサンタのゾリをひっぱたり、サンタが半袖・短パン姿で描かれたりしてオージーっぽいのクリスマス・イメージもある。 　オーストラリアのクリスマス伝統一つがCarols by Candlelightと言います。これは、公園、海辺など屋外公の場で夕方になってろうそくをもってクリスマス・ソングを歌う習慣。とっても綺麗だ！そして、規模がさまざまだ。都市の中心部で数万人参加する物もあれば、近所たちごとで数人しかやらないこともある。おまけ、サマー・タイムで大体夜９時ごろまで明るく子供たちが夏休みなので、にぎやかな季節だ。 　今日の豪風クリスマス・ソングは、典型的なオーストラリア人歌手ジョン・ウィリアムソン作の「クリスマス・フォト」だ。家族揃ってクリスマスの昼食を食べた後にクリケットで遊んで記念写真を家族で撮ろうという話の歌だ。 　ちなみに、クリスマス・ランチを食べた後のクリケット遊びもオージー・クリスマス伝統一つとして言える。 CHRISTMAS PHOTO It’s December in Australia; Time to remember all the family.     豪キャブラリー：Yobbo

    Yobboは、厳密に言えばオージー英語のみではなく、イギリス英語でも使われている言葉けれでも、オージー英語独特な使い方があるから豪キャブラリーに当てはめれると考えRooが判定した。 　オージー英語のyobboは品が悪くて教養のない男の人を示す軽蔑用語でありながら、反社会的な行動がよくyobbish, yobbo-likeと言われているので特定な人に使わない限りどこでも使える言葉。 　Yobboは死語になりつつある。今のオーストラリアではboganが主流となっている。今が似ているけど、女性にも当てはまる上にbogan独特な文化が出来上がっているので、豪社会ではboganがバカにされながら完全に市民権を得ている。 　ちなみに、イギリス英語のyobboは同上の意味がある上に暴力行為を振る人に対して使う。オージー英語のyobboは必ず暴力を振るという感覚がない。 　Yobboの由来はboyを逆にしてyobとなり、それを伸ばしたような感じだ。

    洗濯物が干せる豪州象徴

    オーストラリアの象徴と言えばカンガルー、コアラ、シドニー・オペラ・ハウス、グレート・バリアー・リーフ、洗濯物が干し台のヒルズ・ホイストなどたくさんある。あら、ちょっと待って！カンガルーなどが分かるが、選択物干し台？いったい何なんだろう？まさか国の象徴じゃないだろう？ いや。最初の言ったとおりだよ。ヒルズ・ホイストという選択物干し台が間違いなくオーストラリア国内では国が象徴する物の一つである。日本でのヒルズ族と一味違うヒルズなんだけどね、、、 　ヒルズ・ホイストは19世紀末アデレード近くに発明し、も早オーストラリア・ニュージーランド全国に広がり、今も欧米ではよく見られる。何千万台を売れたらしい。特徴はたくさんある。まずは、高さが調整できる。そして、回転式なので、数が吹くとぐるぐる回り洗濯物が早く乾く。最新モデルは解体可能式であり、使う必要な時意外設置しないでスペースも使わないで済む。おまけ、（親が見ていない間だけど）子供たちの遊び道具にもなることが多い。土地の広いオーストラリア郊外の家のバックヤードに必ずと言っていいほどある。そのため、現代オーストラリアの象徴の一つでもある。 　日本でも販売しているようで、販売元のビデオをぜひ一度見てみたらもっと分かりやすいかもしれない。

    Ronnie Biggs and the Great Train Robbery were pretty well-known among my generation of Australians growing up, and recognition of the famous long-term fugitive was enough in Japan for his 2014 death to be widely reported. Summer is typically busy, as it is every year, but instead of relying almost solely on outsourcers, we are doing more of the work as our business is clearly slowing down.
