Kangaroo crank from Maruishi Cycle

Continuing on from yesterday’s entry, there’s more Maruishi Cycle brilliance on show.
Here is a bicycle crank featuring a kangaroo motif.
This work is especially notable as it was done before World War II.
Also note the kangaroo print on the pedal shaft.
Pretty amazing bit of work, though the kangaroo connection remains a bit of a mystery, yet once again forms a link between Japan and Australia.

    Kangaroo FC’s Kids Turn Hops Into Large Leaps

    The littlest joeys from the Kangaroo FC youth soccer club in the Chiba Prefecture bed town of Matsudo have won regional tournaments, going from tiny hops to large leaps befitting the team’s monicker. Kangaroo FC’s team of first graders have taken home the Yachiyo Okamura Cup in the past. Kangaroo FC has been around since 1981 and looks to be a youth team powerhouse. Nor do I know why a club from a city best known for being a bed town community for commuters to the capital chose to be the kangaroos.     Little Girl’s Story Opens Door to Aussie Animal Boom in Japan

    Back in the early ’80s Australia did not command a great deal of attention in Japan (to be honest, it still doesn’t command that great a presence to this day…) Things changed, however, with the launch of Lucy-May of the Southern Rainbow. Lucy-May of the Southern Rainbow was an anime by Nippon Animation that aired weekly from January 10 to December 26, 1982. The cartoon told the story of Lucy-May Popple and her family, who had emigrated from Yorkshire to live in Adelaide, Australia.     Panasonic Super Kangaroos Pouched A History With Plenty Of Bounce

    For decades, Japan had a professional basketball team called the Super Kangaroos, and true to the team’s name, it made great leaps at times. The Matsushita Electric Super Kangaroos, which would later be renamed the Panasonic Super Kangaroos, were founded in 1951 and competed in Japan’s top company and professional leagues, the old company-based national competitions, JBL Super League from 2000 to 2007 and then the successor Japan Basketball League where it would eventually relocate and change its name to the Wakayama Panasonic Trians.     Venerable Kangaroo Bakery Jumps At Its Chances

    Kangaroo is a small, and well-liked bakery in Kawasaki that has been operating for 38 years and has grown more recently to include a cafe, gallery space and architectural office, all in the same building called House Kangaroo. Kangaroo bakes natural yeast, organic flour breads, and sells weekend-only loaves and sandwiches, but also accepts reservations for bread as its products frequently sell out fast. Adjacent to Kangaroo is roo cafe, which opens only on Fridays and Saturdays, selling an array of beverages and treats.
