Why Is It Snowing, It’s Supposed To Be Summer?

It’s cold and wet, and we’re three days into summer. As I mentioned the other day, the snow in the summer in our garden is supposed to be because of its resemblance to the phenomena, not its materialization.

It’s less than 20 degrees.

The sky is dark and bleak.

It has not stopped raining since the very early morning.

Instead of basking in the summer sun, the flowers’ snow-like appearance seems to have adjusted the season around them.

Other flowers are starting to feel the pinch.

It has been raining for weeks, and the rainy season (which typically lasts four to six weeks) hasn’t even officially started yet.

Some of the Kangaeroo family have taken to different ways to beat the cold, such as by comandeering the PC heater space.

    コアラ、カンガルーやエミューなどが人間に対してあまり危険視されていないが、下記のビデオで見えるように、危ない場合もある。 　コアラは、一日中寝ているという印象を持っている方が多いだろう。（実際に合っているが）年間を通してコアラもさまざまな行動を行っている。Australian Geographic誌がこのビデオにあるコアラ群れを未着取材し面白いドキュメンタリーを制作された。 　普段あまり動かないコアラの活発な姿で驚ければ、この映像がなおさら怖い！今年4月、オーストラリア北部になんとヘビを食べられるクモがいった！糸で捕まったより、ヘビが偶然に糸に上の枝から落ちてクモが素早く動いて捕まって、糸で拘束して食べちゃった！

  • Of Sloths And Sloth

    Closing my eyes on ethical concerns for a couple of hours, Mrs. Kangaeroo and I got on the Tama Monorail and headed to Moff animal cafe in LaLaport Tachikawa, where in addition to getting bird-brained, we enjoyed playing with various types of creatures, including a sloth. Ironically, as that would turn out. A day later and blessed with glorious weather perfect for exercising, I am stuck inside due to various infirmeries. And I have barely moved. But done enough to write this post.

It’s no secret the period from about October 2021 to July 2024 was one of the most testing periods of my life, and riding my bike was probably the prime way I dealt with life experiences I couldn’t otherwise handle.     Budgie smugglersを直訳すると「インコを密入するもの」となるが、そう言われてもピンと来ないだろう。 　実は、男性用のパンツ型水着を示すものだけど、なぜそうなったか画像を見てみれば手っ取り早いかもしれない。ちょっと説明しにくいが、パンツ型水着をはくともっこりが目立ち、ほとんどの場合そのもっこりがインコと同じぐらいの大きさなので由来となった。 　ちなみに、budgie smugglersを履いている写真の男性がオーストラリア野党自由党党首トニーアボット氏だ。この写真により同氏のイメージがオーストラリア国内ではbudgie smugglersと深く密着し、お笑いなどのネタにもなっている。 そして、インコがオーストラリア産の鳥だから生まれたオージー英語が世界中の英語圏で使われるようになっている。

    「やばいリンガル」Sprung（飛び跳ねた）

    　米・英語ではsprungになると、飛び跳ねて何だか気持ちが良くなる感じがするけど、オージー英語では、良い気分になれない。なぜだろう？理由を見てみよう。 To be sprung in English outside of Australia implies a meaning of flying free, but Down Under it takes on a completely different meaning.
