「やばいリンガル」Sprung（飛び跳ねた）

　米・英語ではsprungになると、飛び跳ねて何だか気持ちが良くなる感じがするけど、オージー英語では、良い気分になれない。なぜだろう？理由を見てみよう。

To be sprung in English outside of Australia implies a meaning of flying free, but Down Under it takes on a completely different meaning.

    Kanu Koalaは、オーストラリアで泳ぐコアラに付けられた名前だ。コアラは１日22時間寝るので、ユーカリの木の葉っぱを取るか木と木の間に移すことぐらいしか動く姿を見せない。が、Kanu Koalaはかなり違うようだ！映像が世界中に大ヒット中。 Kanu Koala is the name being given to a swimming (!) koala. Footage of the mighty marsupial’s exploits are currently going viral. Considering koalas spend 22 hours a day sleeping, it’s rare to see them move much further than reaching out to grab sum gum leaves or change trees.     豪キャブラリー： Righto

    Rightoは、は気軽く相手に対して同意を示している言葉であり、おそらくall rightの省略でありながらもうひとつのオージー英語の特徴である言葉の最後に「o」という母音を付け加えた形になっている。二つのオージー英語特徴を示しているという意味は、ちょっと特別な言葉かもしれないね。 Rightoも、何らかの行動を起こす前に自分自身にいう言葉として使う場合もあり、沿いう時は日本語の「よっしゅ」と同じような感覚で使う。 Righto, then, let’s check out the table to see how “righto” comes up in other forms of English and in Japanese.

    豪キャブラリー： Sooky

    オーストラリア人の多くがぐずることが大好きで、よく文句をいう。こういう方々は「sooky」と呼ばれる。 　厳密に言えばsookyは「よく泣く」という意味であり、sook「泣く」（動詞）の副詞であるが、別に泣かなくても文句や愚痴をたくさん言えばsookyと言われる可能性が高い。子どもに対してよく使う言葉なので大人に対して言われるとちょっと見下している感じもある。 　ちなみに、sookを名詞として使う場合は実際にsookをする人を示せるというとても便利な役割を果たせる言葉でもある。

    オーストラリアは猛毒生物の宝庫として知られているが、弁護士、政治家、鉱山王、フィッシュ＆チップス屋の連中という強力なライバルを押しのけて、最凶の座をかろうじて勝ち取っているのが「ジョウゴグモ(funnel web spider)」だ。 そして驚くべきことに、このちっこいクモが主に生息しているのは、シドニー：昔から “Sin City（罪の街）” と呼ばれてきた街の周辺である。 Australia is known for its deadly fauna and despite fierce competition from lawyers, politicians, mining magnates, fish and chip shop operators, just scraping in as the most venomous of all of Australia’s creepy crawlies is the funnel web spider.
