Getting Help

Kangaeroo needs help.

Unfortunately, the kind of help that’s needed is an inside job so, despite being surrounded by helpful and supportive people, the only answer is to keep plugging away.

Bleak, wet, drizzly weather is not helping the situation, but it’s something that can’t be controlled.

Acceptance is the key.

Kangaeroo spent 13 months in a psychiatric institution, received weekly treatment there for a further five years and continues to undergo periodic check-ups and will probably do so until the end of days, if lucky enough.

Kangaeroo is a multiple suicide failure and recovering drug and alcohol addict. So far, clean and sober for over 11 years.

The garden featured in this post comes from Takao Komagino Teien, a Japanese garden about 50 kilometers away from central Tokyo.

It has long been a haven of serenity and a sanctuary. Visits now are only seasonal, but it remains a joy each time.

Kanagawa Lifeguards Finish Gold Coast Stint

A group of eight lifeguards from Kanagawa Prefecture recently completed a successful stint working with counterparts on the Gold Coast as part of an exchange program. Gold Coast City Council Acting Community and Cultural Development Chair, Cr Margaret Grummitt, said the exchange was a great opportunity to share safety information and skills. “This exchange has been running for 12 years and promotes good relations with our Japanese counterparts. The visit helps share ideas and techniques to improve beach safety and is a great way to boost our cultural links with Japan,” she told mygc.com.au. It was the first time Japanese lifeguards had traveled to Queensland for two years, with the…

    Hugh Jackman

Oh, no! What a Hugh-ge spelling mistake! Tokyo in Parramatta Video: Parramatta transformed into Tokyo

  • Tour de Kagoshima-Kyoto Day 10: Nara to Kyoto

Our tour has reached Kyoto, remarkably with only minor injuries and not a single puncture in the more than 11,000 kilometers the cyclists covered collectively since setting out from Izumi, Kagoshima Prefecture, on the morning of October 1. The group battled a barrage of rain on the most prominent of climbs on Mount Aso and Koyasan, but got through unscathed each time. The tour drew to a close in a journey between the two ancient capitals of Nara, where participants frolicked with the deer roaming freely through the city and saw its lauded Great Buddha at Todaiji, and Kyoto, where the group lunched at Inari Taisha Jinja. Only a farewell…

    Tokyo’s Strange Socceroos

Japan has a strange affinity when it comes to using Australian animals for its advertising. A number of major Japanese corporations use koalas and roos to plug their products and services. One with a difference is Hayashi Corporation, a construction company with a history of over 100 years and based in suburban Tokyo. Hayashi Corporation’s Fuchu branch office entrance is adorned with photos of a family of cartoon kangaroos decked out in soccer gear, just like Australia’s national football team, the Socceroos. Japan’s next opponent in World Cup qualifying is Australia, but there’s no connection. What is interesting to note, though, is that the kangaroos had been painted over until…
