Break Affords A Break From Brakes

Arthritis has crept through my hands over the past few years, crippling my fingers and robbing me of any power. This has made braking difficult while cycling, effectively ruling out hitting mountains and group rides because I can’t be sure of being able to brake in time. But a break in a finger has provided a break from braking.

All my cycling plans for the year have been put on a backburner for the time being.

I had intended to get back to daily riding and going for longer rides on weekends to try and get back to the riding I was doing a few years ago.

But arthritis, especially in my hands, and an infection that arose because of the disease, have severely curtailed my ablity to get on the bike.

Warmer weather and a looser than normal schedule have allowed me to ride longer than usual in the early hours of the morning on the past couple of days.

Part of that reason is because I have needed to seek treatment. I may have to sacrifice part of a finger to alleviate some of the difficulties with my hands.

Anyway, I could take the opportunity presented to head in directions I haven’t been in for a long time.

Wonderful weather (at a time before it gets too hot) also provided opportunities for some great photo shoots.

I’m pretty keen to try something longer over the weekend.

Let’s see how it goes, though.

  • Bracing…

Unfortunately, the bracing in the title of today’s post refers to readying for what looks like a rough ride ahead instead of the alternative meaning of refreshing. My job search has proved disastrous, and it’s hard to keep trying to convince myself that I should be grateful for the position I do have even though my employer clearly wants me out and is harassing and haranguing me in every possible way to make my departure a voluntary rather than enforced one. It’s even worse to be surrounded by people who, though well-meaning and intending to encourage, are driving my feelings downward by constantly insisting that things will get better when…

    豪キャブラリー: Smoko

  • Fleeing Kangas Give Japanese Drivers a Roo-ed Shock

Four kangaroos escaped from a farm in the Chiba Prefecture town of Tomisato, east of Tokyo, on Friday, hopping wild on the roads for a few hours before being captured unharmed, police said. The kangaroos were being bred by a Tomisato-based trading company. A keeper apparently forgot to lock the roos’ cage on Thursday night and the marsupial marvels decided to take a look around the local surroundings. None of the kangaroos were injured during their brief foray into freedom. The owner of the farm where the kangaroos were being kept apologized. カンガルー4匹逃亡 投稿者 samthavasa
