Big Red Bike Tour Stage 11: Mama’s Got A Squeeze Box

With a return to work–and the commute to the office–imminent, the slow wind down of the Big Red Bike Tour started today with a chance to head into central Tokyo. I was there to catch up with some old mates and ply them with superb brownies Mrs. Kangaeroo baked.

I had spent most of the day playing with Dino, who while still ill was in good spirits for most of the time and displayed a voracious appetite for both rice grains and neck scratches.

My ride didn’t start until the late afternoon and ended in the evening to the accompaniment of The Who‘s Squeeze Box and other assorted tunes.

All in all it was a wonderful reunion with less chit-chat than expected, but enjoyable nonetheless. Our chat did, however, carry the prospect of continuation as one of my mate’s visiting from the Untied States informed me that he will be working in the building next to me for much of the three months that he will be here.

Fabulously Fulfilling But Frenetically Flat Out

We’ve had an amazingly busy past few weeks packing in all sorts of activities in very little time. It has been frenetic, but fun. Probably the highlight was heading into Odaiba to see a show by Damiano David, the lead singer of Maneskin on a solo tour of Japan. I wasn’t keen on going, but Mrs. Kangaeroo dragged me there and I’m glad she did. David put on a good show and I was up and dancing by the end of the night. We also got a visit from Uyu, the border collie, who stayed a few days and was her typically snarly self. She melted my heart with her…

  • Fatal Attraction

Following slovenly Saturday where I did basically nothing for the whole day, today has become a bit of sprightly Sunday, being busy from the get-go, with the Death Machine taking a prime position. The Death Machine is, of course, the nickname I give to my Performer recumbent bicyle. It gets that name because the bike feels so unsafe, the feeling while riding it is that death is imminet. It’s no exaggeration. Riding the bike is a frightful experience. And I crashed the Death Machine badly around this time last year, fracturing my leg and causing permanent damage to my knee. Getting the Death Machine was a stroke of luck. I’d…

  • Cherry Bomb!

Cherry blossoms have started to bloom in Tokyo’s suburbs. For the most part, flowers have yet to reach peak bloom along my most-traversed part of the Tama River. But in some of the areas where the flowers are at their best, the view is lovely. It was a bonus to be able to see them in flower this morning as I had presumed the entire weekend to be a washout. It rained incessantly yesterday. It gave me time to do some much-needed study for work, which is paying me to take the course I’m doing. I should be putting in a bit more effort on my studies than I am….

Japan-Australia Friendship Festival Fires Up Steaming Summer

Our grueling summer got a shot in the arm from a Japan-Australia friendship festival held in Tokyo’s Ueno Park, but we’re too busy to do a detailed update. Summer is typically busy, as it is every year, but instead of relying almost solely on outsourcers, we are doing more of the work as our business is clearly slowing down.
