    ハーバーブリッジ80周年

    シドニー、いや、オーストラリア全体の象徴ひとつであるは、今週開通80周年を迎えた。 　ハーバー・ブリッジの建設は約10年かかって、開会式ではニューサウスウェルズ州知事ジャック・ラングの先に右翼団体のメンバーがリボンを来て馬で逃げたという事件から歴史がちょっと暗いスタートで始まったが、以降ハーバー・ブリッジがオーストラリアの誇りとなり、今でもシドニーの人々にとって大きな存在感を持つ。 　建設当時から1967年までシドニーも最も高い建物であった上に今でも同市の最長建物である。 　交通・環状道路などだけじゃなく、観光スポットとして有名であり、2000年のシドニー五輪の顔をはじめ、ハーバーブリッジ・クライム（よじ登る）及花火の打ち上げなどでも世界中に幅広く評価されている。 Sydney Harbor Bridge (English) 豪キャブラリー：Coathanger Happy Birthday Harbour Bridge

    史上最高カンガルー・ケーキは日本人女性が作った！

    　オーストラリア政府観光局であるTourism Australiaは、先週フェースブックで３００万人の「いいね」を記念として世界最高（考えRoo主観的な意見、、、）なカンガルー・ケーキ製作をシドニーのPlanet Cake社に委託し、実際にそのデザイン・作成などを行ったのは日本人女性だった。 　Naoko Iikura氏は同社のシニア・ケーキ・デコレーたーであり、巨大なカンガルー・ケーキを作成を担当した。 　このケーキはなんと等身大より大きく、高さ２メートルもあり、ものすごく細かく作られて、遠くから見られたら本物そっくりだ。 　同社ウェブサイトによるとNaoko Iikura氏は約８年前日本からオーストラリアに渡って約３年前にヘッドハンティングされた。Naoko Iikura氏の仕事が速くて細かいと、好評だ。創作を見れば、その理由が一目見れば分かる。 　偏見はあることを認めるが、この信じられないほど素晴らしいカンガルー・ケーキはNaoko Iikura氏が天才的だと言っても過言ではない。 Planet Cake Kangaroo Gallery

  • Abe First Japanese PM To Visit Japanese-Bombed Darwin

    In 1942, Japanese forces launched the only attacks on the Australian mainland, and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe became the first premier to visit Darwin, the most heavily damaged city bombed by the Japanese. Apart from Darwin, Japanese forces also attacked Sydney, Broome, Katherine, Wyndham, Exmouth, Port Headland and Townsville in the early stages of World War II. Abe’s grandfather, former Prime Minister Nobusuke Kishi, was arrested for war crimes, but released without conviction.
