Autumn in Aoyama

Winter is coming to the Kanto Plain, but 2019 still has a final flourish of beauty before the bleakness.

A stroll around the Aoyama/Omotesando areas produced some late-autumn gems.

Autumn 2019 has been a mixed bag in terms of weather.

Terrible typhoons wreaked havoc on many areas in the Kanto region, but there have also been many delightfully sunny days.

Kogarashi ichigo is the term used to describe the first north wind exceeding 32 kmph in a season and is a general indicator for the onset of winter.

Winds have picked up this week, but not enough to qualify as the harbinger of winter.

    Nissan Bluebird Oozui: When Australia (Briefly) Exported Cars to Japan

    This year marks the 20th anniversary of Australia’s disastrous foray into exporting cars to Japan. For a brief period from 1989 to 1992, fully imported Bluebird Aussie cars made in Australia went on sale in Japan. The Bluebird Aussie was apparently the result of Nissan Australia’s Matilda Project, which had aimed to make a solely Australian car for Australian conditions, but ended up being a modified bluebird.   • Barking Mad at a Dog Marathon

    In a move I’m pretty sure I’ll end up regretting later this week, I spent nearly all day helping out at a dog marathon and having the time of my life! I was supposed to help clean our village this morning, which is one of the requirements for living here. But rain intervened.   • Woozy Weather Threatens To Turn Paw Show Into Poor Performance

    Our kangaroo paw are starting to bloom, but they’re coming into their own just as the rainy season starts, hinting that we might not get a grand show. Kangaroo paw are Western Australian plants, so like bright, dry and sunny conditions. We have had a cool, dark and wet spring and early summer. This time last year, our kangaroo paw were resplendant. They’re only just making their way now. The flowers don’t like humidity, and the Tokyo summer is known for its steamy conditions, which is about as bad as it gets for kangaoo paw.
