　マンチェスターはイギリスの最も大きな都市のひとつである。伝統と歴史のある町である上に、スポーツの世界ではサッカーを中心に世界的なブランドにもなっている。オージー英語でも、マンチェスターはブランドになってはいるが、その意味がマンチェスター・ユナイテッド選手ルーニ―などと、かなりかけ離れている。

    　　車について言うと、多くのオーストラリア人が勘違いをしていることがある。 　豪国産車とされているHoldenは実際には車メーカー歴９０年に及ぶその殆どは米ジェネラル・モーターズ（GM)の豪支社としてであった。しかし同社が１９４８年に初めて１００パーセント豪州デザイン・製造車を発売したのは事実である。そして、間違いないのはピックアップトラックの発明だ。そのきっかけとなったのはビクトリア州のある農夫が「月曜日に教会まで乗って行き、その後豚を積み市場へ運べるような車が欲しい」とフォード社オーストラリア支社に依頼の手紙を寄せた事だ。そして、それに対して同社は見事に応え、以降、世界中に同デザインの車が起用されたが、当時のデザイン、車種名を保っているのはオーストラリアと隣国ニュージーランドだけである。UteはUtilityの略だ。英語圏の他の国ではオーストラリア発のuteをpick up truckと呼んでいる。
