残念ながら今日の言葉「skint」は考えRoo.comの現状そのままを示す言葉だ。全くお金がない状態に使う。厳密に言えばオージー英語の独特な言葉ではなく、英語圏内ではよく使われているけど、特にこのご時世なので、オージー英語でもよく使われている言葉なのだ。嫌だよね。早くskintな人がその状態を早期に脱出できるように考えRoo.comも祈っています。

ANZAC Day, April 25, has become an almost holy day on the Australian calendar in the early 21st century as the country celebrates the efforts and sacrifices of its military personnel since it first went to war as a nation at Gallipoli in 1915, but few remember Japan was an ally that played a vital role in creating the ANZAC legend. 21世紀初期現在、ANZAC Day（4月25日）がオーストラリアでは、1915年に国として初めて戦争を体験したガリポリをはじめ復員兵などの努力や犠牲を称える聖なる日のような存在となっているが、そのＡＮＺＡＣ伝説づくりに味方としての日本の大きな貢献がほとんど知られていないのだ。

豪首都の（ちょっとがっかりする、、、）巨大キノコ
オーストラリアの首都でありながら、キャンベラが行政を中心となっている人工都市であり、人口が３０万人強で決して大都会と言い難い。 他の州などに比べてキャンベラが置かれているオーストラリア首都特別地域（ＡＣＴ）でも小さく、人口密度も低いから比較的にオージーらしい「Big Things」が少ない、、、というか、一つしかない。それはキャンベラのBig Mushroomである！ じゃ、量より質という観点から見れば首都を代表する「Big Things」は間違いなく立派なものだろう、、、とも言い難いね。 あの、実はビッグ・マッシュルームが８メートルの幅があり、高さ５メートルもあるので、大きいと言えば大きいだが、キノコの下に子供の遊び場となっているので、ちょっと圧迫感を与えるかもしれないので、他の「Big Things」ほど目立たない。でも、キャンベラの一角の買い物楽園であるベルコネン・フレッシュ・フード・まーケーツの象徴となっているし、１９９８年開設した当時ＡＣＴ知事が公式に開設したということである意味魅力あると言える。 Belconnen Fresh Food Markets View Larger Map
Event Approvals, Grants On Offer For 50th Anniversary Of Japan-Australia Friendship Treaty
Japan and Australia are offering grants and approval for certain events to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Signing of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Co-operation between Japan and Australia in 2026. The governments of both countries and the Australia-Japan Foundation are taking all sorts of steps for broad exchange between Japan and Australia, with the active participation of local governments, businesses, private organizations, and others. Japan is one of the many forgotten contributors to ANZAC Day, a day that has assumed legendary status in Australia and New Zealand. ANZAC Day commemorates the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops at Gallipoli on April 25, 1915. あら！オバマ米大統領が豪訪問のオージー英語ミス
只今、豪国会では米国大統領バラック・オバマ氏が2010年にオーストラリア訪問した際、豪国会議事省の大きいなミスについてもめている。そのミスの原因はオージー英語である、豪紙ナショナル・タイムズがいう。 大統領の訪豪に合わせて同省が記念マッグの製造を委託したそうだ。しかし、作ったマッグのスペル・ミスが発見された。また、そのミスが半端じゃなかった！大統領の名前BarackではなくBarrackとなっていた。そして、Barrackは他の英語圏では「野次を飛ばす」という意味であり、数十年前までちょっと印象が悪いことと言っても過言ではない。オージー英語ではただ「応援する」という意味ぐらいしかない。 結局、配る前にスペル・ミスが発見されてほとんどのマッグが処分され、侮辱に終わらないで済んだようだ。しかし、今度国会でその処分方法について苦情が出ている。マッグが壊れてコンクリートに埋めたらしい。与党の議員一人がそのやり方が「マフィア風だ」と冗談を込めて言ったが、まじめそうな同省の広報の方は「壊さないとどこかのごみ捨て置き場に見つけられたらもっと大変な侮辱だったよ」と反論した。 元記事 President’s welcome mug gets mafia burial (English) 関連記事 Obama Speaks Strine
