豪キャブラリー：Ear bashing
オージー英語では、激しく粘り強くしつこく叱られた時はear bashingされたという。直訳すると「耳がボコボコにする」という意味であり、そのように考えれば感覚がなんとな分かるでしょう。 他の英語圏では、叱れることをtongue lashing（ベロで鞭打ちする）をいうと考えれば英語圏全体では叱ることは変わっている表現を使い怒られることに対しての嫌悪感を伺える。

ストライン（オージー英語）で greenie というのは、自然環境を守ったり再生したりすることに強い信念を持つ人のことを指します。オーストラリアは比較的保守的な国なので、この語はやや侮蔑的に使われることもあります。また、環境問題への考え方に関係なく、社会正義への強い関心を持つ人を指す場合もあります。Greenie は今では世界中の英語で使われていますが、もともとはオーストラリア発祥の言葉です。 A greenie in Strine is someone with a strong conviction for protecting or restoring the natural environment. It can be used somewhat derogatorily, especially as Australia is a fairly conservative country.
