    豪キャブラリー： Sooky

    オーストラリア人の多くがぐずることが大好きで、よく文句をいう。こういう方々は「sooky」と呼ばれる。 　厳密に言えばsookyは「よく泣く」という意味であり、sook「泣く」（動詞）の副詞であるが、別に泣かなくても文句や愚痴をたくさん言えばsookyと言われる可能性が高い。子どもに対してよく使う言葉なので大人に対して言われるとちょっと見下している感じもある。 　ちなみに、sookを名詞として使う場合は実際にsookをする人を示せるというとても便利な役割を果たせる言葉でもある。

    Kangaroo Cooking…Roo Meat: It’s Tasty if Ya Cook It!

    Japanese have been legally eating kangaroo for longer than most Australians. Kangaroo meat was imported to Japan and being served in Tokyo restaurants from 1988, five years before meat from the national symbol was legalized for consumption by Australians in all states other than South Australia, where kangaroo could be eaten legally from 1980. (Indigenous Australians had continued eating kangaroo, a traditional food, regardless of the ban.)     　普通、米・英語ではlurkにはちょっと暗いイメージがあるが、オージー英語ではそれに加えてもっと軽い感じの意味もある。クリックすれば、どのように違うかが分かるよ。 　To lurk implies something dark when normally used in English, but when it comes to Strine, being on a good lurk in Australia is not such a bad deal.

    オーストラリアは、サーフィンの文化が根強く社会に浸透している。サーフィン文化の影響の最も分かりやすい例がおそらく服装にあるのではないか？夏になるとＴシャツとboardiesが国民服のようなものとなる。 オージー英語らしくboardiesはboard shortsの省略だ。ちなみに、board shortsのboardは、サーフボードのボードが由来だ。
