Tucker Australian English Food, a meal. A school canteen in Australia is called a “tuckshop,” and a crate in which food is stored is called a “tuckerbox.” Australia’s arguably most legendary dog was one that sat on a tuckerbox in a small town called Gundagai in the state of New South Wales. Shiela Australian English This term for a woman is another famous example of Australian English. Though still used frequently, it is regarded as derogatory toward women and many people find the word offensive. It is a common insult to refer to a man as “acting like a shiela.” 日本語 女。Shielaは、未だによく使われていながら典型的オージー英語の例でもあるが、女性に対して軽蔑的な言葉と見られる人が多く、使用を侮辱的に受け取る方も少なくない。男性に対して「shielaのように振る舞わな！」をいうと完全に侮辱する。また、あまり使われていないが、日本語でも鱪という言葉があり、日豪共通言葉でもある。 Plain English A woman. テニスをやる時に相手がネットの近くにいるいながら自分が相手の頭の上に高く叩いてコートの奥まで狙ってうつとロブショットを言うよね。 オージー英語ではこれの意味がある上に事前連絡なしで人のところなどをいきなり遊ぶの遊びに行くや訪問するなどは同じくlobを言う。Lob shotとlobが両方とも相手を驚かす行動であるからlobの由来となった。 昔テニス大国だったオーストラリアのスポーツからの言語への貢献の例のひとつだ。
