Self-Portraits

Kangaeroo was once an almost ubiquitous presence on the Internet.

That was, of course, back in the days before the likes of Facebook, Twitter and other social media dominated online viewing.

Even blogs were in their infancy and Google still provided results for terms that people searched for and not for the highest payers.

But that all changed.

Decades have passed since Kangaeroo posted a portrait online.

But that has changed with this post.

These are photos of Kangaeroo now.

Definitely wasn’t worth waiting for!

Not that I think anybody actually waited….

Japanese linguist helps revive an Aboriginal language (English)

  • Aussies, Look And Learn! Japanese Cleanup Of Melbourne Was By Residents, Not Tourists

The Herald-Sun (among multiple media outlets) is rightfully lauding a group of Japanese people for cleaning up the streets of Melbourne. But the Hun is wrongfully claiming they’re tourists. They aren’t. The civic-minded bunch are mostly residents of Melbourne who devote their own time to volunteer and clean up the city in an act other Aussies should take good heed. The group cleaning the streets was a collection of residents, many of who belong to a Facebook group whose stated aim is to foster a love for Melbourne. These quiet achievers give up their valuable time to get together and work to keep the streets clean with…

The Japan-Australia Link To The Great Train Robbery

Ronnie Biggs and the Great Train Robbery were pretty well-known among my generation of Australians growing up, and recognition of the famous long-term fugitive was enough in Japan for his 2014 death to be widely reported. What is less established, however, is that both Japan and Australia have a much closer connection to the crook than many in either country know. Biggs was one of a gang of about 16 people who carried out the Great Train Robbery in 1963, making off with 2.61 million pounds (worth about 12.16 billion yen today). Biggs used his share of the haul to pay for almost 40 years on the run, most famously…

Little Girl’s Story Opens Door to Aussie Animal Boom in Japan

Back in the early ’80s Australia did not command a great deal of attention in Japan (to be honest, it still doesn’t command that great a presence to this day…) Things changed, however, with the launch of Lucy-May of the Southern Rainbow. Lucy-May of the Southern Rainbow was an anime by Nippon Animation that aired weekly from January 10 to December 26, 1982. The cartoon told the story of Lucy-May Popple and her family, who had emigrated from Yorkshire to live in Adelaide, Australia. The story was based on a book called Southern Rainbow by Australian author Phyllis Piddington. The anime would be translated into numerous languages and aired in…

  • Phantom Kangaroos!

Mystery Kangaroos in Japan Fleeing Kangas Give Japanese Drivers a Roo-ed Shock Marsupial Attacks! • What Did Ya Aussie Garden In Tokyo Look Like Before?

Well, we’ve gotta go back a bit. But this is what our garden looked like when it started. I removed everything I could, made the plot as flat as possible, removed all the weeds and then waited for instructions from Alex Endo. And before this, it was even more of an eyesore.
