Despite a short work week, life was busy and the cycling gods dealt another blow that made it hard to stay on the bike.
After riding more than 30,000 kilometers in 2021, the fates have combined to drastically curtail my riding as I’ve been affected by work, play, family, health, commitments and theft have intervened.
This week, I worked on site every day and left my PC in the office, which enabled me to commute by bicycle two days in a row. By the time I went to a colleague’s band play on Friday night at the Ruby Room in Shibuya, I was exhausted, but also crippled by arthritic pain in my hands and feet.
Saturday was pretty much rendered worthless as a result, but I had to go the hospital. I was up early and on the bike and up into the mountains. My regular doctor was suddenly unavailable to work and a substitute took over. He subsequently refused to prescribe painkillers to address the arthritis.
Not to worry, I picked myself up with a quick stroll around Takaokomagino garden and delighted in seeing the plum blossoms in bloom. Spring is not far away, though I was freezing for having believed the weather forecast for temperatures topping 20 degrees.
I got home and followed mrs. Kangaeroo’s advice to seek specialist medical help to address my painful feet, which was basically making it impossible for me to walk normally. A few hours, an x-ray, consultation and prescription filling later, it was finally time to go home, where I played with the dinosaur and flaked it by 8.
Sunday was off to a slow start, too, as I talked myself out of doing anything productive. Today the weather forecast was spot to, though, and the lure of 20-degree plus spring weather got me out on the bike. I got on my Death Machine and headed up the Tama River, coming across a dear friend as I did so. The ride was fantastic and I was back in time for lunch.
I was knackered, but the weather was too good. And it was back on the bike. This time, I headed along the Sakai river cycling road for another ride. I headed home along the Uyu Trail, then cleaned up and finished chores to round off the weekend.
It’s another busy week ahead, but I will be throwing myself into work and study for starters, and life in general overall.
