Australia’s ABC is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the taxpayer-funded national broadcast network. The ABC is also referred to as Aunty, a nickname mimicking that bestowed on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The ABC was heavily influenced by the BBC in its formative years, and the networks retain close ties.

    言うのはなんだけど、（残念ながら考えRoo自身を含めて）多くのオージーがぐずることが大好きでまるで国民的な行動と言っても過言ではないかもしれない。オージー英語では、このぐずぐず文句を言う癖（？）は、Whingeと言う。 　皮肉的に多くのオージーの間Whingeと言えばPommy（イギリス人のスラングな言い方）を思い浮かべ、Whinging Pommyが（少し軽蔑を込めて）よく使われている表現だ。 　ちなみに、whingeを頻繁にする人はwhingerと言う。

    　オージー英語はStrine（ストライン）とも言う。オーストラリア鉛の特徴の一つがしゃべる時に母音を極端に伸ばしてほかの表現を短くすることだ。つきましては、「オーストラリアン」をいう時に鉛に慣れていない人は、「ストライン」や「ストラヤン」に聞こえるらしい。そこで、パロディとして1960年代Afferbeck Lauder氏がストラインという言葉を造語し、今広く使われているようになった。（ちなみに、同氏の名前がalphabetical order < ＡＢＣ順＞のストラインらしい発音でかけているジョークネームである。）
