Endo spoke on Sunday about how to grow a slice of Australia such as banksia, grevillea and other Australian plants in Japan.

The author of はじめてのオージープランツ図鑑』 (“The Beginner’s Guide to Aussie Plants”) released this week, and a great bridge builder between Japan and Australia, gave a pair of captivating lectures; a morning session for beginners and the later session aimed at those who’ve already turned their hand at gardening with Aussie natives.

会場となったオザキフラワーパークには、オーストラリア原産植物が数多く並び、日本の園芸愛好家たちから高い人気を集めています。

He spoke at Ozaki Flower Park, which has a huge array of Australian native plants, which are very popular among many gardeners in Japan.

遠藤さんがオーストラリアの植物に魅了されたのは、30代後半にメルボルンで働いていた頃でした。その経験が人生を大きく変えます。帰国後は30年以上にわたり、日本の気候でオージープランツを育てる方法を研究し続け、その情熱を仕事へと発展させました。

Endo’s fascination with Australian plants began while working in Melbourne in his late 30s. The experience changed his life. Returning to Japan, he spent more than 30 years learning how Australian native plants could thrive in Japanese conditions before turning his passion into a profession.

2010年に会社を退職した後、オーストラリア原産植物を専門とするガーデンデザイン会社「あざみ野ガーデンプランニング」を設立。庭づくりだけでなく、講演や講習会、全国でのセミナー、ガーデニングのアドバイスなどを通じて、多くの人にオーストラリアの魅力的な植物を紹介しています。最新刊『最新版 はじめてのオージープランツ図鑑』は、30年以上にわたる実践と経験の集大成といえる一冊です。

After retiring from corporate life in 2010, he established Azamino Garden Planning, a garden design business specialising in Australian native gardens.

Rather than simply creating attractive landscapes, Endo now designs gardens, teaches workshops, gives lectures throughout Japan and advises gardeners eager to discover Australia’s remarkable flora. His latest book, はじめてのオージープランツ図鑑, is the culmination of three decades of hands-on experience.
