XXXX Is Queensland Spelling For Beer

Queenslandのパブで “I’ll have a XXXX” と言われたら、暗号の話ではありません。

Word

XXXX

Meaning

Example

“Grab a couple of XXXXs for the barbie.”

Australia-Japan Connection

Perhaps not surprisingly, this tiny spider is found mostly in and around Sydney, Australia’s self-professed Sin City. Though it only grows to a maximum of 5 cm, its venom is potentially fatal, though no funnel web spider bite has killed anyone since 1981, when an anti-venom was developed.

How Does An Aussie Garden Give Time To Paws?

One of the highlights of our Aussie garden in suburban Tokyo over the years has been kangaroo paws, except for this year. We initially planted a couple, but in the darker corner of the garden, and after the first couple of years one died and the other was sickly and did not bloom. We’ve achieved much greater success planting from seed. In fact, our kangaroo paws did so well we could give plants to most of the neighbors, as well as friends and colleagues. This year, though, only two of about 12 different kangaroo paws have bloomed (though my next-door neighbor’s have flourished!). July can be…

Rosella goes into receivership Rosella’s iconic sauce in hands of receivers VIDEO: Rosella in receivership ロゼラトマトサウス歴代CM

Pigging Out On Pie Face And ‘Ello Elton

It was a bit of a landmark month as Aussie meet pies went on sale in central Tokyo as Pie Face opened a store in Shibuya, while down the road in Yokohama I got an unexpected chance to see Elton John live. The pies were tasty, but a bit pricey, yet my workmates humored me with a visit there to dine together as the restaurant is within short walking distance of our office. Elton, meanwhile, wasn’t someone I was overly keen on seeing, but I was pleased to get the chance. He was basically going through the motions, though, and didn’t really put on a dazzling display. Having received a…

Dill
