Back on the Bike

For a variety of reasons decent riding hadn’t been possible yesterday, but today it was back on the bike.

Apart from the theft and vandalism, Kangaeroo also had an appointment.

And worry about impending punishment from work had kept him awake nearly all the previous night, mustering a depressive low that thwarted crawling out of bed and plunging in the cold and dark to ride. Should have done it anyway, so the later regret also had a compounding effect on the low.

Kinda living in fear, anger and resentment at the moment.

Thank God for cycling! Getting on the bike provides a lift.

There’s a lot for Kangaeroo to be thankful for.

Lovely wife and children, delightful little feathered friend to spend most days with, fantastic home and garden, good health (or, at least better than it deserves to be).

So, it was with some sort of joy to get on the deadly treadly and head off up the river this morning.

As is typical of a Tokyoi winter, it was a bright, clear and crisp morning.

Bloody cold, but not unpleasant, particularly once the ride had warmed me up.

Need to be careful because of the frost and sometimes ice.

But the reward was the glimpse of a beautiful sunrise to kick off the day.

  • Big Red Bike Tour Stage 10: Washout!

Raindrops and more kept falling on my head and everywhere else today, putting paid to Stage 10 of the Big Red Bike Tour, which became a washout. Admittedly, I didn’t have anything planned and was just going to let things go as they flowed. And flow they did, thanks to the long-awaited rains. But heavy rains from Tropical Storm Peipah gifted me with a day of rest and slow time to spend with Dino, our rosy faced lovebird. And that wasn’t the only gift the precipitation presented as the garden delighted in being drenched following weeks of searing temperatures and virtually no rainfall. The plants and soil were basking in…

  • Big Red Bike Tour Stage 6: Dino In Distress

After a brief glimmer of hope, what should have turned into a routine check-up turned out to be a bit of a dire day on the Big Red Bike Tour with Dino taking a turn for the worse. Our rosy faced lovebird had seemed to be picking up last night when she showed signs of once again being able to poop without assistance, a crucial development if she is to survive. She was straining to excrete and tiny amounts were leaving. This was something we had been waiting weeks for, and were delighted. Doubly so as she appeared lively and healthy. And then I may have made a fatal mistake….

  • Saving Things For a Rainy Day

It’s drizzling and miserable weather today, which provides a wonderful opportunity for an update as my customary lunchtime ride can be substituted. Lots has happened since my last post, but there’s little time to write about it, so this is a bit of a summary of the past couple of weeks. Perhaps most important is the passage of the first anniversary of my garden, Kangaeroo Corner, earlier this week. Amazing Alex, his mate, Mrs. Kangaeroo, my sister-in-law and brother-in-law built the garden as I was out with a broken leg at the time. It has since become one of the great joys of my life. In some ways, Kangaeroo Corner…

  • Oz Has a Purr-fectly Good Map of Australia On Her Snout

Oz is a 5-year-old cat with a unique characteristic that makes her purr-fectly pertinent for news about Australia. This peculiar pussy’s special snout is adorned with an amazingly accurate map of Australia! Incredibly, Oz is from Australia. The Oriental Longhair breed first made news when she was shown at the Royal Easter Show in Sydney a few years back. Lucky for Oz that her unique markings clearly resembled Australia. When it comes to Down Under-related cartography, be particularly careful when it comes to the Map of Tassie, which has an entirely different meaning to what it suggests, but considering Oz, at least maintains the pussy connection.
