Slowly Settling Into Place

It’s been a great year.

I’ve been in full-time employment since April, the longest unbroken stint of working since September 2008.

Mrs. Kangaeroo pleaded with me for some stability and I feel like we are close to getting there.

Our company got bought out over the summer.

Our office moved from Shibaura to Aoyama.

We will be run by cryptobros, but they seem like a decent bunch of fellers and our contract terms are unchanged.

I finally got myself a smartphone, too.

I wish I felt more secure.

Recovery is going well. I am deeply involved in the Fellowship. My relationship with the gorgeous Mrs. Kangaeroo is going great guns.

All I need is to be back in touch with the girls.

Cop A Gander At These Rippers Too...

Stunned mullet

Kangaroo Cooking…Roo Meat: It’s Tasty if Ya Cook It!

Japanese have been legally eating kangaroo for longer than most Australians. Kangaroo meat was imported to Japan and being served in Tokyo restaurants from 1988, five years before meat from the national symbol was legalized for consumption by Australians in all states other than South Australia, where kangaroo could be eaten legally from 1980. (Indigenous Australians had continued eating kangaroo, a traditional food, regardless of the ban.) Despite the head start, kangaroo meat never really kicked on in Japan, despite its reputation for being a healthy, high-protein, low-fat alternative to beef or pork. RooMeat was promoted in Japan as being a preferred choice of athletes and models, but the “stars”…

  • Flashes of Brilliance, but Lacking Focus

Today’s title was a perfect summation of the photos I took on my morning ride, but could also describe my life to a tee. The skies were spectacular! My photography, not quite so. I am struggling to hold my phone still. My hands shake all the time. I got a late start as I communicated with my (retired) psychotherapist sister about how to deal with my current situation. I’m trying to avoid dealing with my emotions and reality. But I am going to have to face both, as the only solution lies within myself. And that was going through my mind as I rode off. Now I have to head…

Shear Fluke! A Rare Aussie Cultural Hit in Japan

Australia’s impact on Japanese society is visible in numerous areas, but in the cultural sphere, Australian influence has been negligible at best. Apart from a literal honeymoon period in the early 1990s when cashed-up newlyweds made Down Under their favored destination, the odd hit movie during the Australian New Wave cinema of the 1970s and 1980s, notably the Mad Max and Crocodile Dundee series, and the even rarer hit song — by artists most Japanese normally regarded as coming from the United States, anyway — Aussie cultural influence has largely been limited to sporadic moments of faddishness. It’s fair to say that Australia has hardly been, well, Big…

Shonky
