世界健康機構によるとオーストラリアが世界一の肥満大国である。Chockiesは、その現状の大きな理由のひとつであり、どこのスーパーでも一列ぐらい占めているに違いない。Chockiesがあまりにも好きで、「依存症」と自称する人が少なくない。しかし、これは世界共通であるかもしれない。違うのがオージー英語の表現だ。そうだ、、、chockiesはチョコレートのことなのだ。

Prezzieをもらって喜ばない人はいないだろう。でも、prezzieって何？相変わらず、オージー英語らしくprezzieがpresentの省略なのだ。

Ridgy didgeは典型的なオージー英語であり、「本物だ」という強調する形容詞となり、fair dinkum, true blueやdinky diなどの類語である。

ＬとＲで苦しむ多くの日本人にとって苦手な言葉ではあるかもしれないが、なんだかんだ言っても最終的に頼りになるのはrelliesだよね。しかし、relliesって何？オージー英語では、relatives（親戚）の略なんだ。
