Heapsは象徴的なオージー英語の一つと言えるだろう。オージー英語ではよく使われている言葉であるが、強調する役割しかなく特に意味が深くない。普通の英語のThank you very muchを砕けて言うとThanks a lotと言える。さら、Thanks a lotをオージー英語に「変身」するとThanks heapsと言う。ちなみに、lotとheapsのいずれも「多く」や「積み重なる」と言う意味だ。
Perve Australian English To leer, often with lecherous intent. At times among friends and depending on context, it can also mean simply to take a look. Perve can be used as a noun and a verb. Originally, perve was an abbreviation of pervert. 日本語 1)(名詞)色目を使う人。 2)(動詞)色目を使う。 もともと、perveは、pervert(変態)の省略だったので、今でも若干嫌らしい感じが残っているが、普通の会話に使っても違和感を与えるや勘違いを招くことはない。友達同士でいると、「見に行く」とか「見よう」という感覚で使う場面もかなりある。 Plain English 1) To leer, stare lasciviously. 2) To take a look. What Is A Restaurant BYO? Imagine walking into a restaurant carrying a bottle of wine. In many countries, you’d be stopped at the door. In Australia? You might be thanked. A restaurant marked BYO means Bring Your Own alcohol. Many smaller restaurants don’t have a liquor licence. Instead of losing customers, they invite diners to bring their own beer or wine. The restaurant usually charges a small corkage fee to provide glasses and open the bottle. It’s a particularly popular tradition at family-run Asian restaurants, where bringing your favourite bottle has become part of the dining experience.
