Work has trickled off. I am applying for jobs, but nobody is interested in me with my reputation.

School is keeping me busy. I need this.

I am cooking for the girls. They hate my cooking, but are being brave and eating it without complaint through kindness for me.

    「やばいリンガル」Flat out

    　米・英語では、flat out というのはただ物を平らにするという意味にしか過ぎない。でも、オージー英語ではちょっと違う。同じ英語でも、同じ言葉でもまったく意味が異なる場合がある。今日は、オージー英語がflat outに関してどんな罠が待っているのかを見て見よう。 Strine has developed its own peculiar usage for words that differ from the English spoken in other countries.     Australian English accents don’t really have regional differences. Somebody in Perth in the far southwest will sound reasonably similar to someone from Townsville in the far northeast, over 6,000 kilometers away. Considering the area involved – Australia is 26 times bigger than Japan – it’s amazing. 　オージー英語は、地方によっての訛りの違いがあまりみられない。オーストラリアの西南部にあるパースの人も、そこから約６０００キロも離れている東北部にあるタウンズビルの人も、訛りにたいした違いはない。広さのことを考えてみれば、驚くべき事だ。（だってオーストラリアの面積は日本の２６倍もあるんだから！）

    豪キャブラリー：Yobbo

    Yobboは、厳密に言えばオージー英語のみではなく、イギリス英語でも使われている言葉けれでも、オージー英語独特な使い方があるから豪キャブラリーに当てはめれると考えRooが判定した。 　オージー英語のyobboは品が悪くて教養のない男の人を示す軽蔑用語でありながら、反社会的な行動がよくyobbish, yobbo-likeと言われているので特定な人に使わない限りどこでも使える言葉。 　Yobboは死語になりつつある。今のオーストラリアではboganが主流となっている。今が似ているけど、女性にも当てはまる上にbogan独特な文化が出来上がっているので、豪社会ではboganがバカにされながら完全に市民権を得ている。 　ちなみに、イギリス英語のyobboは同上の意味がある上に暴力行為を振る人に対して使う。オージー英語のyobboは必ず暴力を振るという感覚がない。 　Yobboの由来はboyを逆にしてyobとなり、それを伸ばしたような感じだ。
