A native or resident of the state of Western Australia. A West Australian. A Westralian. The name comes from an insect that lives in the state, but has become the nickname of Western Australia’s inhabitants. Western Australia has a greater land area than any other state in Australia, but much of it is desert and the nickname probably also derives from this fact.

  • Tinned Food

    Tinned food is the Strine for food, or tucker, in a can. Like most forms of English that derive from British English, Strine prefers using tin over can, but both words are understood to mean the same thing. Tinned food は、ストラインで“缶入りの食べ物”、つまり“タッカー（食べ物）”を指す言い方です。イギリス英語の影響を受けた多くの英語と同じく、ストラインでは can より tin を好んで使いますが、どちらの語も同じ意味として理解されています。

It is used for nearby places on the opposite side. 日本語の意味Over the road は「道路の向こう側」という意味です。 ExplanationAustralians use it for simple directions.     豪キャブラリー： Budgie smugglers

    Budgie smugglersを直訳すると「インコを密入するもの」となるが、そう言われてもピンと来ないだろう。 　実は、男性用のパンツ型水着を示すものだけど、なぜそうなったか画像を見てみれば手っ取り早いかもしれない。ちょっと説明しにくいが、パンツ型水着をはくともっこりが目立ち、ほとんどの場合そのもっこりがインコと同じぐらいの大きさなので由来となった。 　ちなみに、budgie smugglersを履いている写真の男性がオーストラリア野党自由党党首トニーアボット氏だ。この写真により同氏のイメージがオーストラリア国内ではbudgie smugglersと深く密着し、お笑いなどのネタにもなっている。 そして、インコがオーストラリア産の鳥だから生まれたオージー英語が世界中の英語圏で使われるようになっている。
