　米・英語では犬などが喜ぶと尻尾をwagするけど、オージー英語だったらwagして喜ぶのは何者だろう？決して良いワンちゃんがやることじゃない。

In other forms of English, a dog wags its tail when pleased, but in Strine, Australian English, it’s certainly not the good little doggies that do the wagging.

    Cozzieは典型的なオージー英語であり、典型的なオーストラリアのものでもある。多くの人にとってオーストラリア人の印象はライフセーバーである。そして、そのライフセーバーの制服と言うべきものがcozzieだ。そうだ！Cozzieは水着のことだ。死語のswimming costume「泳ぐ服装」のオージー英語らしい省略言葉だ。 　島大陸のオーストラリアは世界有数の水泳大国でもあり、有名なSpeedo水着はオーストラリア生まれだ。長年Speedo社は自社製水着をGreat Aussie Cozzieという語呂合わせしたコピーを使っていた。 　水泳大国らしくオージー英語では「水着」という意味の語彙が豊富であり、cozzie以外にswimwear, bathers, trunks, togsなどもある。

    厳しい世の中ではおとなしくしていると損する場合があるが、喋りすぎても良くないことも招くことがある。多くの国々同様、オーストラリアでも恰好を付ける人々はあまり高く評価されず、そういう人たちが何か話そうとすると「shutyergob」と言われる可能性が高いだろう。Shutyergobは、実をいうと、shut your gobの「融合言葉」だ。Shutは閉じるでしょう。そしてyourは当然「あなたの」。また、Gobは口なので、直訳すると日本語ではこの豪キャブラリーが「口を閉じろ！」という意味だ。
