    Kangas And Koalas Take Center Stage As Kanagawa Zoo Celebrates Marsupial Milestone 1986年から40年、オーストラリアの仲間たちを祝う 1986年10月25日、金沢動物園に初めてコアラとオオカンガルーがやって来ました。2026年は、その来園から40周年です。金沢動物園では、コアラの日でもある10月25日を中心に、10月13日から12月27日までさまざまな記念企画を開催します。 Forty years ago, on Oct. 25, 1986, the first koalas and eastern grey kangaroos arrived at Kanazawa Zoo. In 2026, the zoo is celebrating their 40th anniversary with a series of special events running from Oct. 13 through Dec. 27, centred around Oct. 25, which is Koala Day in Japan. まだ申し込める企画：ユーカリウォーター蒸留体験会 9月27日現在、まだ申し込める40周年企画は2つあります。そのひとつが、10月17日に開催される「ユーカリウォーター蒸留体験会」です。コアラのエサとして栽培しているユーカリを使い、ユーカリウォーターを蒸留します。アロマ＆ハーバルスクールkukunaの髙橋久美子さんが講師を務めます。定員は15人、参加費は2,000円です。参加費は当日受付で現金で支払います。 As of Sep. 27, two of the anniversary activities are still accepting applications.     Big Watermelon: スーパーサイズすいかが大型八百屋の看板だ

    　オーストラリアビクトリア州ワンターナー・サウスという所に大型野菜卸売り場があり、その広告塔として「Big Things」のひとつであるBig Watermelonがある。 　Big Watermelonはブッシ・パークという野菜卸売り場のシンボルだけ、近くにノックス・シティという南半球最大ショッピング・モールがあり、住宅街にもあるので、決して目立っていると言えない。 Bushy Park Fruit and Veggies 大きな地図で見る

    Kalamundasaurus: ごく普通な家の前にある偉大なアオジタトカゲ

    西オーストラリア州州都パース郊外ひとつであるカラマンダでは、他の豪州「Big Things」と違う巨大キッチュ彫刻がある。 　これは、Big Bobtailと呼ばれ、長さ約９メートルのアオウジタトカゲである。観光地でもなくごく普通な住宅街に位置しているので町おこしなどその他の「Big Things」と違ってただあるだけ。作られた理由が特になかったようだったが、その近くにウロウロする本物のアオジタトカゲがモデルとなったらしい。 　恐竜に似ていると言われているので別名はカラマンダザウルスだ。 　ちなみに、カラマンダザウルスが「パースの最も最悪な物」のひとつとして選ばれた。 大きな地図で見る
