Why Do Aussies Chuck A Sickie?
豪cabulary：「Sickie」って何？ 「今日は I’m taking a sickie.」 オーストラリア人がこう言ったからといって、本当に熱があるとは限りません。 Sickie（シッキー）とは、本来は病気を理由に仕事を休むことです。しかし日常会話では、「ちょっと休みたいな」「今日は仕事をサボりたいな」という冗談まじりの意味で使われることも少なくありません。 もちろん、本当に体調が悪い場合にも使われます。最近ではメンタルヘルスのために休暇を取ることへの理解も広がっているため、必ずしも「ズル休み」という意味ではありません。 オーストラリア英語には、brekkie（朝食）、barbie（バーベキュー）、mozzie（蚊）など、「-ie」を付けた愛称のような単語がたくさんあります。Sickieもその仲間です。 Vocabulary WordSickie Pronunciation/ˈsɪki/ MeaningA day off work because of illness. Australia’s ABC is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the taxpayer-funded national broadcast network. The ABC is also referred to as Aunty, a nickname mimicking that bestowed on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
