Japanese grunge-punk rockers GUNK are on show in Melbourne and country Victoria this weekend as they unroll their Down Under tour.

GUNK is Tokyo underground royalty. Featuring members of legendary Japanese punk rock bands, GUNK brings together decades of blood, sweat and rock’n’roll from the heart of Tokyo’s underground scene…They are touring Victoria in August 2026.

Ron Mueck at the Mori Art Museum

One of Australia’s most celebrated contemporary artists is currently the subject of a major exhibition at the Mori Art Museum.

Ron Mueck’s hyperrealistic sculptures explore the human condition through astonishing craftsmanship and dramatic changes in scale. If you haven’t visited yet, this remains one of the year’s biggest Australian cultural events in Japan.

    オーストラリア人はどのように静かなスキーの町・ニセコを変えたのか？ That began to change when Australian skiers started returning home with stories of dry, light snow, uncrowded slopes and a long ski season. Word spread quickly. Friends recommended Niseko to friends, ski clubs organised group trips, and specialist travel companies began offering packages to Hokkaido. In the early 1990s, Niseko was already known among Japanese skiers for its deep powder snow. Yet outside Japan, few people had heard of the small Hokkaido resort. But Australians did more than visit.     Namatjira Legacy Torched! 豪画界の重要な自然遺産が放火で破壊される

    　豪ノーザン・テリトリー州にある重要な自然遺産として認められつつあった有名なユーカリ林がこの頃放火で全焼された、と豪各大手マスコミ社が4日付報道した。 Ghost gums on the verge of being recognized as part of the Northern Territory’s heritage have been destroyed by arson, according to various mainstream Australian media reports on Jan. 4. 　このユーカリ林はゴースト・ガムと呼ばれている木であり、初めて国際的に認められ有名となった豪先住民画家故アルバート・ナマトジラ氏が描いた木だった。 These eucalyptus trees had come to prominence after being painted by Albert Namatjira, the first indigenous Australian artist to achieve widespread global recognition. 　焼かれた林は、同州自然文化財を認可する寸前だったようだが、この数日間以内に放火された。動機など同州当局が捜査中だという。 The torched trees were apparently about to be recognized as an important part of the state’s heritage, but were burned to the ground some days ago.
