今週は、オーストラリアのサウンドアート、ワイン、音楽、そして日豪の歴史をめぐる展示まで、全国でさまざまな催しがあります。

This week brings Australian sound art, wine, music and an exhibition exploring the history connecting Australia and Japan, with events spread across the country.

下呂 Art Discovery 2026

オーストラリアのメルボルンを拠点に活動するアーティスト・デュオ、マデライン・フリン＋ティム・ハンフリーが、岐阜県下呂市で開催される「下呂 Art Discovery 2026」に参加します。

作品《風をいこさな　山とめる》は、森の中の「苔のみち」を舞台にしたサウンドインスタレーションです。風、水、鳥の声と、地元の子どもたちのわらべ唄をもとにした音楽が重なり、訪れる人に「聴くこと」を通して場所を体験させます。オーストラリア大使館も特別協力しています。

アクセス

JR下呂駅から公式無料シャトルバスが運行されます。車がない場合でも、シャトルバス、公式ツアー、JRと徒歩・レンタサイクルを利用して各会場を回ることができます。

下呂 Art Discovery 2026

作品「If the mountain holds its breath」は、森の中の「苔のみち」を舞台にしたサウンドインスタレーションです。風、水、鳥の声と、地元の子どもたちのわらべ唄をもとにした音楽が重なり、訪れる人に「聴くこと」を通して場所を体験させます。オーストラリア大使館も特別協力しています。

The Artwork Passport costs ¥2,000 in advance and ¥2,500 normally. Free for high-school students and younger. Advance pricing is available until September 10.

Access

An official free festival shuttle bus operates from Gero Station. Visitors without cars can also use the official tours, JR services, walking or bicycles to reach the various venues.

Gero Art Discovery 2026

THE TORRES STRAIT (ZENADTH KES) AND JAPAN

Opening on Thursday, 10 September, this may be the most historically fascinating Australian-related exhibition of the week.

The Torres Strait (Zenadth Kes) and Japan: History and Connection As Seen Through the Ohshima George Photograph Collection explores the connections between Japan and the Torres Strait through photographs taken by Japanese photographer George Ohshima in the 1970s.

The exhibition also examines the history of contact between Japan and Torres Strait communities, including connections through the pearl-shell industry. The Australian Embassy is a supporting partner, alongside Australian institutions including the Australian National University.

9月10日（木）開幕の注目企画が、国立民族学博物館の「トレス海峡（ゼナドスケス）と日本」です。

1970年代に日本人写真家・大島襄二が撮影した写真コレクションを中心に、トレス海峡地域と日本との交流や歴史を紹介します。真珠貝産業などを通じた両地域のつながりにも焦点を当てます。オーストラリア大使館が協賛し、オーストラリア国立大学なども協力しています。

南オーストラリアのワインメーカーたちが、ワイン・オーストラリアの日本ロードショーに続いて京都を訪れます。

プレミアムな南オーストラリア産ワインを味わいながら、ワインメーカー本人から地域やワインについて話を聞けるイベントです。軽いビュッフェも用意されます。ANZCCJによる開催です。

South Australian winemakers are visiting Kyoto following the Wine Australia Japan Roadshow.

Guests can sample premium South Australian wines while hearing directly from the winemakers about their regions and wines. A light buffet is also included. The event is organised by ANZCCJ.

ロン・ミュエク展は、子どもから大人まで「こんなに大きい人、こんなに小さい人！」と直感的に楽しめるタイプの展覧会です。中学生以下は入館無料なので、家族で六本木へ出かける候補としてもチェックする価値があります。会期は9月23日まで。

Mueck’s huge and tiny human figures make this a particularly easy exhibition to enjoy across generations. Junior-high students and younger children are admitted free, too, making it a useful family option for a day out in Roppongi. The exhibition continues until September 23.

The Australian–Japanese musical connection continues well beyond this week. Shonen Knife’s Re-Cuttin’ Australia Tour 2026 begins in Melbourne on 14 October, followed by Ballarat, Belgrave, Melbourne, Hobart, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Alice Springs, Canberra, Sydney, Bathurst, Avalon Beach and Newcastle.
