More Shots Snapped During a Lunchtime Stroll

Late autumn/early winter can be a wonderful time in Japan.

The typhoons of the early to mid-autumn are gone and the rain stays away for most of the time until June of the following year.

(Leaving aside the fact that October and late November were wet and sodden this year).

The bitter cold of winter doesn’t really show itself all day until after the new year, and days are generally bright and sunny.

Added to that, the fiery reds and yellows of autumnal leaves can create some gorgeous scenes, even in central Tokyo.

Some shots Kanageroo snapped during a lunchtime stroll are here for your perusal.

Up And Away Over The Clouds On A Brompton

My Brompton folding bike has proved to be more of a handful than I’d hoped with its unique parts costing a lot to maintain, but it is also lifting me to new heights in cycling, literally this month as I rode the Norikura skyline. The Norikura Kogen skyline is one of the highest elevation roads in Japan and I got a shock riding down a mountain for the first time, especially as I was carrying a heavy load. I rode my brakes nearly the entire descent of roughly 15 km, which started in pleasant sunshine, but ended in a mist. I had no idea how to descend properly, and when…

Kanagawa Lifeguards Finish Gold Coast Stint

A group of eight lifeguards from Kanagawa Prefecture recently completed a successful stint working with counterparts on the Gold Coast as part of an exchange program. Gold Coast City Council Acting Community and Cultural Development Chair, Cr Margaret Grummitt, said the exchange was a great opportunity to share safety information and skills. “This exchange has been running for 12 years and promotes good relations with our Japanese counterparts. The visit helps share ideas and techniques to improve beach safety and is a great way to boost our cultural links with Japan,” she told mygc.com.au. It was the first time Japanese lifeguards had traveled to Queensland for two years, with the…

Nissan Bluebird Oozui: When Australia (Briefly) Exported Cars to Japan

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Australia’s disastrous foray into exporting cars to Japan. For a brief period from 1989 to 1992, fully imported Bluebird Aussie cars made in Australia went on sale in Japan. The Bluebird Aussie was apparently the result of Nissan Australia’s Matilda Project, which had aimed to make a solely Australian car for Australian conditions, but ended up being a modified bluebird. Australia was, at the time, at the peak of its powers in the enormously fickle Japanese market. Thousands of Japanese tourists were flocking Down Under and Australia was on the verge of overtaking Hawaii (albeit very briefly as it turned out) as the…

FIFA Australia vs Japan Head-to-Head Statistics Football Federation Australia Japan Football Association
