  • Bunger: When A Cracker Is More Than Just A Bang

There are fireworks, and then there are fireworks that make everyone look up and ask what the hell just happened. A bunger belongs to the second category. The word traditionally referred to a particularly large firecracker. In Australia, bunger has long had a reputation for being the sort of explosive device that was far too impressive for its size. The important point for modern readers is that these devices are now heavily restricted, and legality varies according to Australian jurisdiction. bunger Meaning Bunger is Australian slang for a large firecracker or explosive firework. The word is associated particularly with the old-fashioned Australian culture of homemade or illegally obtained fireworks….

  • Queen/女王様

Queen Australian English The Queen, referring to Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II. Australia became an independent country in 1901, but remains in the Commonwealth and Queen Elizabeth II is officially the country’s head of state. Plain English Queen Elizabeth Strine Dictionary

    Big Things

  • Buggery Is Australia’s Favourite Place That Doesn’t Exist…Sort Of

In Strine, “buggery” has two everyday senses that have almost nothing to do with the word’s literal legal meaning (anal intercourse) elsewhere in the English-speaking world: 1) a fictitious, faraway place, roughly equivalent to “the middle of nowhere” or “hell”; 2) an impolite but mild way of telling someone to go away: “go to buggery.” Example “He can go to buggery for all I care.” Scale of Roo-dness: 🦘🦘 Moderate When Aussies Use It Among friends, family, and even on daytime television — Australia’s ABC ran a comedy panel show literally titled Club Buggery in the 1990s, which is a fair sign…
