　オージー英語には、職業の独特な呼び方もある。米・英語の普通の名詞に～y/ie音や～o音を付け加えたり、及び省略することによってユニークなオージー職業名も出来上がった。

    豪キャブラリー： Thongs

    故英国首相ウィンストン・チャーチル氏は、イギリスとアメリカが「共通の言葉で分かれている二つの国家」という名言を残したが、ルーツが同じでも使う英語が違うオーストラリアではさらに言葉の誤解を招きやすい。今日の豪キャブラリーであるthongがその典型的な例だ。オージーにとってthongsが夏に欠かせないものとなっている。しかし、それをアメリカ人に言ったら、驚かれるだろう。オージー英語ではthongsはビーチサンダルのことを示すが米語のthongはセクシーな下着であるＴ－バックのことだ。

    豪キャブラリー：Galah

    由来が良く分からないが、オージー英語では誰かを「galah」と呼ぶと、「ドジ」や「アホ」を示すだ。 　Galahはそもそもオーストラリア産のインコ類の一つの鳥だ。写真が示すようにピンク色の胴体と主に白い頭できれいな通りだが、どうにか評判がいまいちであり、「おばかさん」とのつながりが少なくともオージー英語では深い。実際にgalahそのものが特に頭が悪いわけでもないと思うし、その無知さが検証されている訳でもない。 　評判はすべてですね。

    Thwack! Roo Taking No Nonsense From Paraglider

    An Aussie paraglider copped a shellacking from the national symbol recently, going global with a video showing a kangaroo attacking him as he landed near Canberra. The paraglider offered a warm welcome to the ‘roo only for the mean marsupial to pounce at the intruder and let loose with a couple of decent whacks. The kangaroo bounded off, leaving the paraglider unharmed except for a case of hurt pride and footage that has not gone viral.

    　　車について言うと、多くのオーストラリア人が勘違いをしていることがある。 　豪国産車とされているHoldenは実際には車メーカー歴９０年に及ぶその殆どは米ジェネラル・モーターズ（GM)の豪支社としてであった。しかし同社が１９４８年に初めて１００パーセント豪州デザイン・製造車を発売したのは事実である。そして、間違いないのはピックアップトラックの発明だ。そのきっかけとなったのはビクトリア州のある農夫が「月曜日に教会まで乗って行き、その後豚を積み市場へ運べるような車が欲しい」とフォード社オーストラリア支社に依頼の手紙を寄せた事だ。そして、それに対して同社は見事に応え、以降、世界中に同デザインの車が起用されたが、当時のデザイン、車種名を保っているのはオーストラリアと隣国ニュージーランドだけである。UteはUtilityの略だ。英語圏の他の国ではオーストラリア発のuteをpick up truckと呼んでいる。
