　豪州外では、rottenは腐っているという意味だけど、オージー英語ではその腐り方がかなり違う。さて、どのようにだろう？

    豪の謎な「マンゴ・ミステリー」が解けちゃった

    「やばいリンガル」Stuffed

    　米・英語に比べると、オージー英語はやばい時がある。何の変哲もない言葉が、いきなり大きく違った意味になってしまう。Stuffedも、その例の一つ。 Australian English, or Strine, can be more dangerous than British or U.S. English at times. A seemingly innocent word in one place can cause great misunderstanding in another, and “stuffed” is a case in point.

  • やばいリンガル：Shithouse

    ストラインでは「shithouse」が質が悪いや結果が芳しくないと意味しています。直訳すると「糞の家」という意味になり、外便所に使われている「Outhouse」と「Dunny」と関連性がありながら微妙に意味が違う。 Shithouse is Strine for poor quality, or unenjoyable. It literally means “house of shit.” Though closely associated with outhouse and dunny, which are words to describe outside toilets, the meaning of shithouse is slightly more nuanced. Somebody in Perth in the far southwest will sound reasonably similar to someone from Townsville in the far northeast, over 6,000 kilometers away.
