世界健康機構によるとオーストラリアが世界一の肥満大国である。Chockiesは、その現状の大きな理由のひとつであり、どこのスーパーでも一列ぐらい占めているに違いない。Chockiesがあまりにも好きで、「依存症」と自称する人が少なくない。しかし、これは世界共通であるかもしれない。違うのがオージー英語の表現だ。そうだ、、、chockiesはチョコレートのことなのだ。

Australia At Osaka Expos: From The Tower Of The Sun To Chasing The Sun
Australia is exhibiting at the recently opened Expo Osaka 2025, and it got me thinking about the difference between now and the last time Japan’s second city held the world’s fair in 1970. Back 55 years ago, Japan was keen on showing to the world its miraculous recovery from the devastation wrought on it in World War II and Australia was keen on pushing itself as an advanced economy basking in glorious sunshine while surrounded by sunny beaches. Big Captain Cookが只今売り出し中
オーストラリアの英国植民地化に深く繋がっている人物であるジェームズ・クックが意外と豪州「Big Things」仲間入りしている。 クィーンズランド州北部にあるケアンズではキャプテン・クック・ハイウェイ添えに1960年代に作られた高さ７メートル幅２メートルの敬礼しているBig Captain Cookがある。 キャプテン・クックは、1770年にオーストラリア東海岸を到達している間初めてヨーロッパ系の人がケアンズ周辺まで行った。その18年後、イギリス人がオーストラリアを入植した。 実は、このBig Captain Cookも日本との関連もある。元々設置された場所の土地は日本の企業に買収され、解体・撤去するという話しがあり、今では売り出し中だそう。お金も土地さえあれば、誰でも「Big Things」のオーナーになる大チャンスだ！ 大きな地図で見る
野生カンガルーがメルボルン空港で捕まえれた
オーストラリアで野生カンガルーを見るのは決して珍しくないが、流石に空港内では異例だ！ 10月２２日午前中、野生カンガルーがオーストラリアメルボルン市空港内の駐車場で走り回っている姿が見られた、とある人が警察に通報した。 警官が駆けつけてところ、同航空の駐車場５階にカンガルーを見つけた。 カンガルーを鎮痛剤で撃たれ、鎮痛させられた。 無事だった。 カンガルーは、健康状態を調査した上で放される、とメルボル市の広報が言う。 ちなみに、野生カンガルーがメルボルン空港で捕まえられたのは２回目。 ８月にも同様な時間があった。 メルボルン空港野生カンガルー事件ギャラリー この動画が示すように、怖くて、逃げようとする野性カンガルーが本当に恐怖だ。 Roo turns airport into Hopper’s crossing
