日豪味深い映画「ウルヴァリン: SAMURAI」の和風ポスター盗難問題

　ヒュー・ジャックマンが主人公、日本が舞台などWolverine日豪味深い映画「ウルヴァリン: SAMURAI」の墨絵風PRポスターが米国では盗まれっぱなしだ、とメルボルンエイジ紙が２３日報道した。
The Wolverine, a movie with strong Australia-Japan connections with Hugh Jackman as its star and much of the action taking place in Japan, is being plagued by people stealing its Japanese-influence sumi-e posters, according to the Melbourne Age on April 23.
　約２０年前日本でもSMAPの木村拓哉の公な場にあったポスターが盗まれた現象と同じように同映画主人公であるヒュー・ジャックマンがイケメンの上に和風人気が恐らく原因であるポスター盗難が人気ぶりの証しとして配給会社20世紀フォックスにとって矛盾でありながら嬉しい悩みだ。
In a phenomenon similar to that seen in Japan about 20 years ago when women were stealing posters featuring SMAP performer Takuya Kimura‘s posters from public areas, distributor 20th Century Fox faces the mixed pleasure of seeing proof of the upcoming movie’s popularity in the theft of the materials used to promote it, probably because of the popularity of its heartthrob star, Hugh Jackman, in addition to the Japanese flavor of the flyers.
　「ウルヴァリン: SAMURAI」は、X-メンシリーズ最新作であり、日本で９月上映し、オーストラリアがその２か月前から。同映画撮影が主にオーストラリアと日本で行い、主人公がオーストラリア人であり、真田広之かTAOやRILAなど支援役のほとんどが日本人で舞台が日本だから日豪色が濃い映画である。
WolverineIIThe Wolverine is the latest installment in the X-Men series of movies based on the popular comics. It opens in Australia in July and in Japan two months later. It has strong appeal for both Australia and Japan, with its Aussie star Jackman supported by Japanese actors of the ilk of Hiroyuki Sanada, Tao Okamoto and Rila Fukushima, while the movie is set mostly in Japan and much of the filming occurred in Australia and Japan.
　それに伴って、海外では映画の日本関連性を強調して宣伝しているようだ。その作戦ひとつとしては墨絵風の映画ポスター。同ポスターはジャックマン氏が演じるウルヴァリンを墨絵風で描かれている。
The Japan angle is apparently being plugged strongly in promotion of the movie outside of the land where it’s set, which led to the sumi-e poster, which features Jackman depicted as his Wolverine character.
　20世紀フォックスによると、米国内で同ポスターがあまりにも人気であるため張られているバス停の約５割から盗まれているし、新たに貼れなければならないようになっている。
20th Century Fox officials have apparently had to replace about half of the posters on bus stops around the United States as fans pocket them.

    Up There, Kazari!

    Australian Sports Day was a fantastic event held at Komazawa Olympic Park yesterday, and I got to go and enjoy some of the proceedings that were a decorative display, (or should I say kazari?), of some of Down Under’s favorite pastimes. The day itself was a ripper, starting with explanations, demonstrations and games of cricket, moving on to games of footy and then ending with a netball exhibition, with sales of Aussie foods, wear and fare such as meat pies and banana bread and cuppas from Club Australia‘s Tad Watanabe and the Australia Cafe van. Needing to deal with duties in the garden and home and able to enjoy lunch…

    Cozzieは典型的なオージー英語であり、典型的なオーストラリアのものでもある。多くの人にとってオーストラリア人の印象はライフセーバーである。そして、そのライフセーバーの制服と言うべきものがcozzieだ。そうだ！Cozzieは水着のことだ。死語のswimming costume「泳ぐ服装」のオージー英語らしい省略言葉だ。 　島大陸のオーストラリアは世界有数の水泳大国でもあり、有名なSpeedo水着はオーストラリア生まれだ。長年Speedo社は自社製水着をGreat Aussie Cozzieという語呂合わせしたコピーを使っていた。 　水泳大国らしくオージー英語では「水着」という意味の語彙が豊富であり、cozzie以外にswimwear, bathers, trunks, togsなどもある。

    There’s Something Fishy About豪州の魚介類Big Things!

    　一昔前まで魚をはじめ魚介類は一般オーストラリア人の食生活にそれほど馴染めなかった。 　が、今ではお寿司（質のことを別に置いておいて）が昼食必需品などで決してそれはもう言えない。 　なので、オーストラリアの国のシンボルのひとつと言えるかもしれない「Big Things」に入っているのが不思議ではないだろう。 　完璧な例がビクトリア州とニューサウスウェルズ州の州境界となっているマレー川（オーストラリア最長川でもある）に存在するマレー・コッド像が観光町スワン・ヒルにある。 （駅そばに設置している魚像がちっと違和感を感じさせるかもしれないが、、、）。 Giant Murray Cod in Australia ちなみに、同町も19世紀で外輪船で有名だった上に、20世紀初期にオーストラリア初の米栽培が日本人が周辺で栽培した。 そこからさらに東方へ行って海岸に向かうとスノイ山脈がある。 そこにはニューサウスウェルズ州の小さな町アダミナビがある。 同町の主な産業が観光だ。 しかし、ちょっと面白い過去がある。 1950年代を中心に水力発電スノイ川ダム計画の一部としてアダミナビをはじめ四つの町が町ごと動かされた。 　オーストラリア唯一ノーベル文学書受賞者パットリック・ホワイト氏の初小説の舞台ともなった。 　が、これは余談。同町に「Big Things」がある！観光名所の理由ひとつが魚釣りだ。 そして、同地域のマスが「ますます」美味しいという評判だ。 なので、それを称えるのがBig Troutだ。ちなみ、この巨大マスのモデルとなったのは冷凍食品だったそうだ。 1973年制作、高さ10メートル重さ3トンで見事な魚。 　同州をさらに北部へ向かうともう一つのBig Troutもある。これがオベロンという町にあり、アダミナビ同様マス釣りが有名な町だ。 　そして、さらに北は飛んでいくとオーストラリア最北部にあるファーノースクィーンズランドがある。 同地域の最も大きな都市ケアンズにBig Marlinがある。 グレート・バリア・リーフやデイントリー地域などで有名なケアンズはカジキ類の聖地とも言えるので、そこで世界最大級なカジキが釣られた。 そのことを象徴として同市がBig Marlinという高さ約8メートルのカジキ像を建てた。　 　今までも考えRooの「Big Things」連載で他の魚や魚介類関係のオブジェを紹介した。 それはThe Big PrawnかファーノースクィーンズランドのBig Barramundi、南オーストラリアのBig LobsterとBig Oysterやビクトリア州のBig Yabby、Big AbaloneとBig Dead Fish。 　こんなに魚や魚介類がオーストラリア人の日常・非日常生活の中に溶け込んでれば海事大国といっても過言ではない。
