オーストラリアは均等機会社会だと言う意識が高い国だ。社会階級がなく皆平等だと言う思いが全国に広がっている（実際はちょっと違うが、決して格差社会とは言い難い）。
　そこで、天狗になって自慢することがかなり嫌がれている。正当化出来る理由があってもなくてもを別にして、自慢し過ぎり人がかなり評価悪くup yourself（直訳すると「自分に高上り過ぎだ」）と言われる。
　ちなみに、この成功している人やプライドが高い人を引き下げたり、見下したりする行為はTall Poppy Syndromeと呼ばれている。直訳すると「背が高いケシ目症候群」。簡単に説明すると「出る釘が打たれる」と同じようなことなのだ。
